View Full Version : Why?
Marty 05-31-2001, 03:14 PM At the risk of being crucified I must ask:
Why is it that, lately, it seems that everybody except the moderators of the this board are telling everybody else what they should and should not post?
I have been here for some time. Not as long as others, but I can remember 6-9 months ago seeing posts with subjects of Ping: BC or Ping: Whoever, and nobody complained about these personal messages then. Now it seems that everybody feels that they must moderate this board. I say let the members be members and let the moderators be moderators. If a post is out of line, report it to the moderators and let them decide. We need a little live and let live attitude around here.
Oh well, I had my say.

Anywho I agree. Lets just have fun and stay within the rules and not make the mods do anything!!

Anyone who tries to crucify Marty will face my wrath. :D
(and trust me, you don't understand how deep it runs until you've met me in real life ;))
(j/k about facing my wrath... But my temper is another matter entirely ;))

I must say that this is the best way you all can help out. Some people quote the spam, and/or post messages under it *and* report it, but honestly, if you just click that little link, without saying anything, we'll get to it as fast as we can and then there aren't 4 messages clogging up the thread about the one post that was outta whack. We do appreciate the help though as we can't be everywhere at once and some of you have really been helpful in reporting posts.
Overall I've seen the board get busier and things are more or less OK, except for a stray board spammer or breakout. We expect it though, and try to balance everything.
Wazeh 06-01-2001, 02:27 AM Marty, in one word it's "democracy" :D
The citizenry of this board is revolting against the ruthless CDS junta and its 'head' -- pun intended.
In a more serious note, though: I totally agree with you. Roles must be respected and moderators do a superb job already.
ID2000 06-01-2001, 03:30 AM "Can't we all just get along"?
Sorry, I't just seemed right.

Gee Marty... with all due respect, isn't that pretty much what you're doing in your post?

With all due respect, No. I did not single out a post and say this does not belong, I did not single out an individual and attack them, I did not suggest that anyone had started a thread that was unacceptable, etc. What I did do was suggest that we all follow a little bit of etiquite, and allow the mods to moderate. What I have seen lately is: Person starts thread, someone says thread is inappropriate, debate begins over whether it should be here or not, sometimes a mod shows up and says thread is okay or not. I am suggesting that it is inappropriate for the average board member to tell another average board member that his thread was unacceptable as that is the job of the moderator.
I don't think it is that difficult to see that my post is a general statement of what is already contained in the rules of this forum and general etiquite, and contains none of the personal bashing or thread hijacking nature of the "You shouldn't post that here" nature of some of the posts on this board.

Mod shows up, okays this thread :D
Seriously, while is our job to mercilessly rule over all of you errrr... I mean moderate the forums (it's a joke guys!), we welcome input and a gentle reminder that everyone play nice by a mod or a member sometimes calms things down a bit.
I can't believe people bagged on the, "Yea it's summer!" thread. Seems even the joyful topic summer is subject to criticism. *sigh*
I'm off to the beach! Whoooo-hooo :)
