well first off searched here and at raq groups and could find answeres but when I apply em they do not work
so I get this errror message

when I set up the user as a alias
if I set it up as a straight user I have no pobs
I have set up everything correct int eh realy section
have tried it with all combos

so again only on alias files does this happen

I didn't think you could send using the alias. You can set a reply address in most mail clients to make it look as if it came from the alias, and they'll be able to reply to the alias, etc.

curious then is this a RaQ thing or ??
I have set up a user sdm.tiff@domain.com
then given an alias tiff@domain.com

mainly since the raq can only have one user of the same wording this way the first three letters are like a code for the domain
that way I can have the same username under other virtual hosts
I go to email tiff@domain.com and I get an error back saying user unknown
if I type in tiff@www.domain.com it will work
so in the control panel under the relay for hosts

www.sdmaui.com
mail.sdmaui.com

now I have tried just sdmaui.com
and just www.sdmaui.com
both together
and all three

site settings:
under server aliases:
sdmaui.com, www.sdmaui.com, mail.sdmaui.com

email server is:
mail.sdmaui.com

so if I go in a delete the user sdm.tiff
and put her in as just tiff the email works fine ?

so question is on a cobalt can you not use a alias with a email account without having to type in the WWW in the email address.

I wanted the 3 letter code to be a way to setup users to avoid having the same name for each virtual account
some names are going to be the same on virtuals
such as

info@domain.com
info@domain2.com
since these would be seperate clients I would not want all my mail going to just one person but to each person whos account it was in
adn not have to have them type in the WWW in the email address
I am used to a normal Unix box when I have an alias I can use it as a normal account.

In order to also accept user@domain.com instead of just user@host.domain.com, you need to go to "Site Management" and check "Accept Email for Domain".

I hope this solves your problem

Agree, this sounds like you didn't set it up in the site settings. Is this a RaQ3 or 4? One has a checkbox then other (the 4's) you should type in the domain in the field.

I am on a RaQ 4i

did not see the checkbox for mail form domain must be a raq3 thing
so under the
email server aliases I addded it in there
and now it works
only had mail.sdmaui.com in my alias now put in sdmaui.com,mail.sdmaui.com,www.sdmaui.com
