Ok, I'm not here to flame or anything else, just tell the facts as they are.
I'll start off by saying I unfortunately believed the hype of how good their deals were on servers before I found this discussion board. I paid $3500 for a P633 with 512 mb of ram and a 20 GB Eide HD. This was 2 months ago. This was my own fault, I take the blame for it, but anyone that knows hardware knows I took the shaft here. Again, my own fault, I should have searched around.
Now for the juicy stuff. My server with them is currently down and has been for the past 16 hours. My server was down 4 days ago for 2 days. Both of these outages were because of storms. I quote from their website:
Our backup systems are among the strongest in the industry with dual power grids, Diesel backup generators and UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), all contributing to over a 99.9% uptime.
Where are these backups when I need them? And 99.9% uptime? Try 75% uptime in a good month.
My server was also down a month ago for 3 days while they were "moving the racks around". HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MOVE A RACK?!?!?!
When I ordered my server I got FreeBSD installed on it because I believe it to be better than RedHat. Opinions will vary, but that's not the important part here. They setup the main partition with 35 mb of space on it. This was for all the logs, any extra software I wanted to add , etc. It took 2 reinstalls to finally get it close to what I wanted. They also couldn't figure out how to give me permission over my own IPs, which was more downtime because I couldn't bind the hosts. Numerous other issues with their incompetant tech support raised problems.
Also, when I started my negotiations with them for my server, I specificially said I wanted a dual processor machine. Somehow in the rush to get things moving along because I needed another server badly, I didn't realize that the sales rep only put it as a single processor. My fault, I admit, but still annoying. It also took over a week to get setup when it was supposed to be in under 3 days. When I started the negotiations also I was supposed to be given 100 GB of bandwidth per month and at the end only ended up with 40 GB as that was their new policy.
I can't tell you how many other frustrating things have happened in my 2 months with them, as there are too many to remember. Yes, they are very cheap, but with other providers out there who care about their customers, are they worth it? Draw your own conclusions.
