I have no idea what the Singapore market is like, but I don't think too many people would pay more than $99/month for that over here. Rackshack has a 1.7 GHz Celeron, 512 MB RAM, and a 60 GB hard drive for $109/month. (400 GB transfer)
If you're offering unmetered transfer, I suppose FDCservers.net would be more of a competitor... I think most people who don't host super-busy sites tend to be scared of 'unmetered' places, as it seems that most people there are there because their site uses a ton of bandwidth. Plus, it depends on how 'shared' the line is -- if it's shared with ten people, it's a pretty nice deal. If there are hundreds and hundreds of servers on the line, it's going to be pretty bad.
BTW, make sure that if you do start offering this... You don't call it a "P4 Celeron," since that's kind of like saying something about your "Honda Ferrari" or "Toyota Ford." They're two separate products. I'm pretty sure you meant to say "Intel 1.7 GHz Celeron"?
eddy2099 03-02-2003, 07:57 PM I am not sure if the bandwidth is capped, I would supposed that would make a difference in terms of pricing. Hosting in Singapore might be appropriate if your target audience are in Singapore or within the South East Asia region.
Here is the network status and ping speed from Singtel's Datacenter http://business.singnet.com.sg/network/index.html
critical 03-02-2003, 10:09 PM so what do you guys think of it? what price is right? what if lowered to 120per month? too high or too low
VNPIXEL 03-02-2003, 10:30 PM the question is how much you willing "to make" out of it.
critical 03-02-2003, 10:45 PM depends on how much the market wants to take it?
eddy2099 03-02-2003, 11:00 PM Although it is unmetered, does Singtel capped the bandwidth pipe or how fast are their outgoing pipes ?
critical 03-02-2003, 11:28 PM not really its 100mbps local + overseas
richy 03-03-2003, 12:01 AM how about you put up a test file or ask your provider to and we can see what sort of speeds we can get from europe \ usa :)
critical 03-03-2003, 01:56 AM try this http://www.ehostingzone.com/uumap.tar.z .. and see how is it

Celeron's now use the Pentium 4 core, starting from 1.7 and up.
So essentially it's a P4 Celeron 1.7; I still prefer Celeron 1.7 - as most people will not know that it does have a Pentium 4 core.
critical 03-03-2003, 04:11 AM thanks for all the answers.. i would like more comments please thanks :)
Angel78 03-03-2003, 04:17 AM 47 kbps from Austria,Europe. Cable Connection. ( it is not slow, not as fast as some but it's ok)
critical 03-03-2003, 12:14 PM i have decide to offer athlon xp 1700 256mb ram and 40 gig hdd instead.. for $120 per mth.. is it too expensive?
try the speed
wget ftp://test:test@ftp.inforev.com.sg/uumap.tar.z
critical 03-03-2003, 09:17 PM so what do you guys think?wats the right price?
kneadingu 03-03-2003, 09:20 PM If you want to make this a no brainer. Try $79/mo, increasing the RAM to 512, HD to 60GB, offering plesk, cpanel and be prepared to answer and substanstiate network details. I'd also kill the setup fee and think about 2 months in advanced. Again I would think about it.
As is I would not pay more than $59/mo.

critical 03-03-2003, 09:24 PM so whats the best price to price at?
FW-Mike 03-03-2003, 11:41 PM wow man, i think you need to learn how to draw a conclusion out of what people are saying.
If you cant make simple decisions especially when people are handing you the info, this isnt the biz for you.
critical 03-03-2003, 11:54 PM would this be a better price? athlon xp 1700 , 40 gig hdd , 256mb ram .. unmetered bandwidth.. and 2 ip address
for $150 setup fee and $89 per month
Razer 03-04-2003, 10:00 AM 89 SGD or USD?
sprintserve 03-04-2003, 10:06 AM While Singtel gives you a 100mbit, and do not meter it, it basically means that it's the same for the whole data center. The performance can drop drastically during peak times/hours. I don't think it's worth it unless my site/server audience is in Singapore.
