View Full Version : How long should it take to set up a resold account?

Is 24 hours long enough?
I thought I had a good deal. Paid for it yesterday. Today - still no details.

I've tried e-mailing to no avail.

Funny because pre-sale, they were very quick to respond.

How long should I wait around before I cancel the charge with my CC company and start looking for another host?

Curious,
T

T,

24 hours is more than enough. I assume you were talking to the sales people prior to signup - have you tried emailing sales@theirdomain.com to see if you get a better response? If not, I'd drop them fast..

Tried it a few times.
I'm about to try it from my yahoo account just to make sure it's not some problem with my email system (which I've tested and seems ok - no bounces getting in or trouble emailing out).

Funny, because they came highly recommended on these boards.
I did have a slightly special need but at least they could have said - "we're working on it" (?)

T,

What was that special need - was it something that would take some time to get setup/installed on the servers for you? (a special app, or whatnot)

If there was some extended things that they needed to install, I can understand that not being available to you - but they should've given you some information at least...

The special need was that I was to be put on one of their Adult Content servers.

Some of the accounts I have are risque - not explicit but naked enough to call for special treatment.

I'm working up a good "Web Hosting Request" post as we speak in case this falls through.

T,

With that information....

That request isn't really that special, IMHO... 24hrs is way too long to activate a new customer. Good luck in your search for a host!

Yep.
I just posted this message (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=118225) in the Web hosting requests forum.

Thanks for the feedback!

Post the company name here that you tried to get this account from. It should get their attention, and if it doesn't, will warn other users about them. As a host myself, if I saw my service being talked about for not getting a new customer activated in 24 hours, I'd have some heads rolling. If they missed one who went public, there's probably 10 that just gave up and recended their payment.

Be sure that you signed up with the correct email address. I can tell you that there's nothing more frustrating when we send off the welcome email and it bounces. :eek2:

That does seem to be pretty common. Usually when we have someone ask why their account is taking so long to set up, we tell them when we sent the welcome email to @address.com. They usually come back with, "Oh. I don't check that mail."

Woke up this morning to an email in my in box from them saying they sent the info on Friday but it "seems to have been captured by the server".

(side note - I tried to IM them through their IM instructions more than a few times and got their auto-response every time)

They apologized but I still requested (again) that they cancel my account.

Now, I guess I need to start a thread if they don't cancel me with no issues, eh?

..."Oh. I don't check that mail."

Yeah, we get that quite often too.

Hard to beleive that people wouldnt think that we would actually email them the details of their account.

Good tips, but none of those are apply in this specific case.

Now, after repeated requests to cancel I've been met with no response.
Even tried calling and left a message this time.

I would hope this is a temporary glitch in their system. I'm well aware some folks have bad days/weekends where lots of things pile up and go wrong. I'm giving them every benefit of the doubt here.
Like I said, they've received some good comments here on WHT.

Sounds like you maybe used an email address of the account your host is setting up for you, in which case if the hosts account uses the same DNS as your new account then the email will try to be sent locally (on the same server) and not be sent out at all.

I have seen this one happen before and it is an easy error to make on both parts.

Good luck in your new search though. :)

Nope. That's not the case either.
Thanks for the best wishes. I think I've found someone else (I have to choose between 3 good ones I've found it seems).

Ahhh, well then there is no excuse on the hosts part... they should have set you up earlier.

Also, it is quite worrying that no one is responding to your cancellation emails... Maybe you will get results tomorrow (monday).

Have you tried contacting them any other way than email? Maybe there is some sort of email issue. Try finding a rep for them on these boards and sending a PM.

Email - PM through these boards - Two different IM accounts - and a phone call.
I think I've done my part.

people don't realize it but it happens often.

I'm not the only one who would like to know . . .

We generally have new accounts setup in six (6) hours or less. Adult or not in fact most of our clients publish/link to adult content.

I think it may be pretty untypical of them so I won't say.
They did return my phone call and confirm cancelling the account.

I'll chalk it up to some fluke in the system. Wouldn't want to burn them for something that may have been an innocent error, you know?
