View Full Version : What to do with a UnitedColo box?
Jeffbg123 02-28-2003, 11:18 PM well, I bought a UnitedColo box, the 1.7 cele with 1000 gigs of transfer/month. I tried running a few game servers which didn't seem to work out great. So now I have an empty United Colo box without a control panel. Any ideas on what I can do with it?
Paint 02-28-2003, 11:52 PM give it too me? lol get rid of it and get a better ded host? let me admin the server? so many things you can do... many them involve giving the server to me...
but in all seriousness i would get rid of the server united colo is very bad!
M0NkEY 03-01-2003, 12:08 AM Speaking of UCG I would love to know why my websites traffic was cut in half the last 2 hours and what the heck this is...
eddy2099 03-01-2003, 12:14 AM If you are not using it, you could probably terminate your contract with them. This way you would not be incurring unnecessary cost.
Jeffbg123 03-01-2003, 12:40 AM I have about 3 and a half weeks left.......
mswordman 03-01-2003, 12:41 AM lol, you say a game server didn't work well on that box, why don't you just throw it back up, and let me take a crack on fixing it.

Archbob 03-01-2003, 01:56 AM Umm, its a bad Dedicated server, get a better one. For a game server, you want tier 1 bandwidth from a 100mps port.

1.7 celeron != game server hardware.
Eric Lim 03-01-2003, 05:36 AM Hmn.. You perhaps have nothing to do with this UCG box. Upload some redhat iso images, get a temp minor site for RH for several weeks. That might well spend your 1000GB b/w

netdude 03-01-2003, 09:11 AM i second seg fault's notion!
Chachi 03-01-2003, 09:57 AM you could try offering free reseller accounts (which no-one else seems to be doing) with small amounts of space/bw. Once people get set up, they'll naturally run out of space/bw and since they might be/or can picture making profits out of the business, they're likely to pay for your proper reseller packages.
It's always nice to think outside the box ;)
Chachi 03-01-2003, 09:57 AM As for the control panel - maybe try some of the free *nix panels out there?

I don't know how well this would work, but there seem to be a bunch of people in the Web Hosting Requests forum who say "I need a server NOW." Perhaps you can switch the account over to their name, and charge them your $99 (or more... especially if you paid a setup fee) for this month. That way you get your money back, and they get their server that they so urgently need.
Just an idea... :)
mswordman 03-02-2003, 12:44 AM Sorry didn't notice it, but it could host atleast 1 20 person easy, then again just flood their inbox with random trafic, they will throw you out right away.
