What happens if I just type "reboot" or "shutdown -r now" in the command prompt for my FDC server? Wont it just reboot? I don't have the time to wait 20 years for them to reply to an e-mail or to reboot my machine. :(

I don't have the time to wait 20 years for them to reply to an e-mail or to reboot my machine. :( eddy2099 02-27-2003, 08:14 PM I guess it would reboot. You would probably contact them if you cannot do a soft reboot yourself on the server, like when it hangs or something. jesus 02-27-2003, 08:17 PM boom, I rebooted it... let's see what happens *assumes deviant grin* Abaddon 02-27-2003, 08:22 PM I just allways use "telinit 6" jesus 02-27-2003, 08:23 PM ... getting nervous ;) those damn pII 400's take forever :( jesus 02-27-2003, 08:27 PM oh well, i guess i killed it :-D Abaddon 02-27-2003, 08:29 PM I think shutdown just shuts it down. jesus 02-27-2003, 08:31 PM No, I typed reboot. And "shutdown -r now", well, the -r means 'reboot'. Shutdown is just another command, shutdown -h now, -h means halt. ETc etc... reboot, which is what i typed, just reboots the machine. :) eddy2099 02-27-2003, 08:33 PM The 'shutdown -r now' is supposed to reboot the server immediately after it shuts down. if the '-r' is missing then it will just shutdown and the end. Do you have a control panel to enable a reboot ? jesus 02-27-2003, 08:55 PM No. :-/ This is not an important server, I have it for "testing"... TheVoice 02-27-2003, 08:59 PM I usually just type in reboot and that works. mswordman 02-27-2003, 09:27 PM but auto, is it auto? jesus 02-27-2003, 09:46 PM This is what FDC sent me just now: >did you change anything any system settings ??? server >rebooted OK but it >has no internet connection. What is your root password ??? rusko 02-27-2003, 10:02 PM jesus, di you upgrade to cpanel 6 by any chance? jesus 02-27-2003, 10:23 PM Yes, is this a common occurance with cpanel6? eddy2099 02-27-2003, 10:23 PM Actually come to think of it, if you have Cpanel/WHM, you would not need to shell to be able to reboot. WHM has a function which allows you to do so graciously or forcefully. zdwebhosting 02-28-2003, 12:15 AM hopefully you can get it working again! jesus 02-28-2003, 12:34 AM Thanx :) Actually, I wasn't upgrading, I was installing it fresh. The install started lagging, then stopped responding, so I terminated it via another shell and then did the reboot. They have my server back up now, and this time they're installing cPanel for me LOL :) kneadingu 02-28-2003, 04:34 AM Originally posted by jesus Thanx :) Actually, I wasn't upgrading, I was installing it fresh. I am using Redhat 7.3 by the way. PixyMisa 02-28-2003, 10:58 AM When you're in doubt - Reboot!!! When trouble's about - Reboot!!!
