View Full Version : gnxonline.com and bt.net
toma1708 05-29-2001, 09:24 AM Does anybody know anything about gnxonline.com and bt.net ?
I am mainly interested by:
1. How long are they in business ?
2. Do they have problems with their servers (downtime...)?
XTStrike 05-29-2001, 09:49 AM bt.net
what can i say, if ur british you will know about bt, i think the companies are related, BT is british telecom.
they have one of the worlds largest debts, currently standing in the billions.
althought they have a very good network too! and own the entire telephone network in the UK!
lord1 05-29-2001, 04:17 PM As far as I can tell, gnxonline.com (or .co.uk) is not that big, they are using the reseller plan from fasthosts.co.uk.
And professionality is also not a number one priority at gnxonline.com, their site has many spelling errors, and their support responses even more.
But, I have a site with gnxonline.com right now, mainly because I needed ASP, and they were cheap enough, and they are ok. Downtime is existent, but not too much.
toma1708 05-31-2001, 10:18 AM Thanks for information.
Are you sure that gnxonline is reselling for fasthosts ?
I have "discovered" what BT is. Impressive...
toma1708 05-31-2001, 10:35 AM How much downtime have they ? gnxonline.
lord1 05-31-2001, 10:52 AM gnxonline is indeed reselling for fasthosts, I am absolutely sure of that. They most likely have that 500 Pound plan, where you have unlimited space and bandwidth for virtual domains. I also noticed they got themselves a matrix server from fasthosts just recently. Just check out the nameservers for gnxonline, and it will teach you plenty.
gnxonline is pretty good when it comes to downtime, although I wouldn't trust them if I had a real important site on there. Not taking the big downtime of recently into account, I would say that over the course of a week, they are down about 1-5 hours, which is not good for e-commerce of course. Speed is incredible from where I am (Belgium), though.
But, I have learned to stay away from anything that has something to do with fasthosts. I used to have an account with Isinglass.net, and I was very happy with them, until Fasthosts decided that Isinglass.net should no longer resell for them (because one or two clients of Isinglass broke the rules), so they just shut them down. They're obviously out of business now, which is too bad, because customer service was very good.

1. We intend to move 2 domains to them. Do you think that there is a risk related to gnxonline ?
2. Our site there is asp based (a small portal of links and other stuff). do you think that this can overcharge the server ?
3. It seems that gnxonline si in business from 1997. Should I ask them from when they are doing business with fasthost ?
4. Do you know a good free web site monitoring service ?
Thanks.
lord1 05-31-2001, 12:27 PM 1. There's not a big risk in moving some domains over to them.
2. ASP shouldn't overload the server.
3. They probably will be quite uncomfortable when you ask them questions about these things. Actually, they will probably not tell you the truth. For example, they claim to be one of the largest providers in the world. Who can actually claim that? They also claim to have connections in the USA, however all of their nameservers point to fasthosts, which is in the UK. They talk about the fact that they use a data center, and later on, they talk about 'our data center'. And, lastly, their trouble ticket system numbering went from 900 to 1500 in more than a month, meaning that they can't have that many customers as they claim to have, or at least, if they are the biggest in the world, they would probably have tens of thousands of clients, which would only send 600 trouble tickets in one month? I guess not.
4. I've only tried one: internetseer.com, but I don't believe them to be that good, as my site was down several times during certain weeks, and they said I had 100% uptime.
toma1708 05-31-2001, 12:41 PM Thank you for your answer.
You are right about the ticket numbers.
I have asked them and I am looking forward to see their answer...
Best regards,
lord1 07-01-2001, 07:06 AM gnxonline has gone bad!
The best advice I can give you now is to stay away from them!! (cfr. search for gnxonline in this forum)
