Hi all,

I have a webserver that was being sponsered by another company, but it looks like that company is in financial difficulties, so they have not paid me for the server in over two months.

I have quite a few accounts on it (basically this server was used for On-Line game league sites where the clients got accounts for free), and don't want to close down the server so I am looking to try to make some kind of money off it to make payments so I don't lose money.

Due to costs, I cannot offer people like 100mb space/20gb BW for $15 a month, because I don't get bandwidth for that cheap :(

My aim is to provide people with simple accounts with a more personal feel. I will provide 1 on 1 support with the users as I will not be hosting hundreds of sites.

Anyway, please can you have a look at these prices and tell me what you think?

http://www.moose-shack.com/pricing/index.php

I get bandwidth for $3 per GB in 10GB increments, and dedicated IPs are $2.

I will provide support via ICQ/Email/Support Software/Forums.

Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.

Regards

James Kapherr

PS - As soon as I buy in more BW, BW prices WILL drop and I will upgrade peoples accounts.
All accounts are hosted on RedHat 6.2 with CPanel and with VenturesOnline.com who are moving to Verio's NOC as opposed to VDI's NOC.

I will be uploading a re-vamped site soon, as I am not keen on my current design.

http://www.moose-shack.com/support/ = support page.

Sorry, I made a mistake in the above post and I put down $4 per GB BW, when indeed it is $3 that I get it for.

I will add 1GB extra to those accounts in the pricelist

Ack - sorry moderators - thought the Webhosting forum was the correct place for this post as I wasn't advertising, just asking advice.

Apologies

Both prices are too high. There are currently rates between 1 and 3 dollars/G and 2 dollars/IP is too expensive. That means that if you set up an account with 1G plus 1 IP you are charging 5 dollars ?

I suggest that you think about it.

Hmmm

I DO need to rethink the pricing, yes.
Not for the reasons you stated.

As I said, currently I get bandwidth for $3 for 1GB - thats the price I pay.

The bit I will change is the cost for the IP.
It should be a 1-off payment not a monthly charge as I pay $2 for the IP (one off payment).

I would LOVE to get bandwidth cheaper, and as I stated before, once I get some accounts I can buy more bandwidth at a cheaper price and pass those savings onto the clients.

Thanks for the comments - I will remove the buy links until the plans are finalised.

Which are your prices ?

What do you mean?

I was being open with telling you how much *I as a webhost* get bandwidth for, and was asking if what I am charging seems OK.

The price outline is at http://www.moose-shack.com/pricing/ - that is why I was asking for comments.

Those prices are based on *me* getting bandwidth for $3 per GB, support, space etc.

so those accounts with 3GB BW would cost *me* $9 for BW alone, then there is support and HD space on top.
So $6 is what I would get before HD Space+support.

So I won't be making much - as I said my aim is to cover the costs of the server that I am left with due to the old sponser going out of business, so I am not looking to host 100's of accounts off this server.

If there is a lot of interest then I will get a bigger and better server.

The current server spec is at
http://www.moose-shack.com/stats/

And I won't lie about the server - it is a P3 866, 256mb ram (at the moment, it is fine but will put more in when needed), 30GB IBM ATA100 7200rpm drive.
