Hi,
I'm running a website with visitors from all over the world but the majority (about 50-60%) of my visitors are from the US. I'm swedish myself and I want to find a new webhost so my question is:
Is it better to have a swedish webhost or should I seek for a US - based host?
Technical english can be hard to understand sometimes but I'm concerned about the connection speed towards my US visitors if I use a swedish host. Do you know if that is a problem?
Also, if I should use a swedish host can you recommend one?

Dear Aradiel,
As you will know more than 60% of the total Internet-population is American. I am myself UK-based and found that one of my major problems with webhosting was that when I was awake (European time), the US was asleep and so was my US-webhosting company. This meant that if I had a problem I had to wait until the US woke up, which is about 7/8/9 hours after the Europeans and than you end up working in the middle of the night to solve the problem.
Please read my question with respect to European hosting or 24 hours US-host on the General Webhosting-forum.
I do not know any Swedish hosts, but please be careful with your choice of host. I am a started and took the wrong one, now I am paying for it. I found some simple readable information on http://techcellence.net (right-hand menu). (Matt, I apologise for the promotion.)
No advice on the speed.
Good luck,
Gerard

Aradiel,
I am swedish like you and have asked myself, and others, this very same question. After a lot of investigation in to the matter I have found no good answer. The connection speed itself is no problem but the connectivity (being able to get through to the server) have sometimes been an obstacle.
I am still with my US host and will most probably stay there as the connectivity haven't been a problem lately. They (www.dids.com), unlike swedish hosts do offer 24 hour support and I have never had any problems like Gerard, having to wait for support to wake up.
As far as swedish hosts go I have scouted www.fsdata.se (http://www.fsdata.se) and they seem good.
Please email me if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
T-bear
