Hey guys,
I am building a web site for a charity my family is starting in my father's name who passed away two years ago. I'm pretty comfortable with computers, but have no experience in building a website, or what I would need to know.
I have been told that the cheap web hosts are not good; the graphics aren't very complex, the server is slow. We are willing to spend a little more if the quality is substantially better.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Hosts that may be good? I would appreciate any help anyone may have.
:)

Some expensive hosting providers can be "no good." Don't judge a host by their pricing as it's not an accurate way to gage support and server issues.
A site like yours should not require much in the way of bandwidth or space. There are several hosting providers on these forums that would fullfil your hosting needs.
From experience, I can suggest:
www.Myacen.com (WHT member name is Myacen - Robert)
www.Futurequest.com (WHT member name is Deb - Deb)
www.Powersurge.com
While never personally hosting with the following, they may be worth looking at as you'll find positive feedback on them.
www.Hostingmatters.com (WHT member)
www.Enhancedhost.com (WHT member)
There are others.

This advice really doesn't help much LOL, though its true, cheap and expensive never mean the host is good or bad, just means one costs more than the other. Doing a search on these boards and other like it for comments about these hosts would be your best best to find out which are the best.

you mentioned your building a site for charity, some host's will host sites for charity for free, so look into it before signing up with a host, you may full within their necessary criteria.
here's a good hosting company that offer charity hosting:
