View Full Version : Streaming Media suggestions please
glyn canada 02-26-2003, 03:31 PM Hi there,
I have a request from a prospective client to host streaming media for them. Anybody have any recommendations for the aplications that can be used to host these apps?
Let me know if your decision is made on a cost, usability, bandwidth, etc reason.
thanks
Glyn

We just did a thread on this not too long ago... some good info there.
Personally, I am using Helix for live video streaming. Depending on the project, that can be an expensive way to go.

glyn canada 02-27-2003, 04:07 PM Thanks for your input so far guys. I have enough to go back to the customer with and if I have any specific questions regarding this I'll fire them off.
Helix looks like a good product from my reading. It is now down to their investment wishes.

1upromo 02-27-2003, 04:23 PM You must have more space and more bandwidth for your all needs, for this reason, you can search in this forum or google with your specific words for your all needs.
Good luck

glyn canada 02-28-2003, 03:46 PM I had hostcentric.com mentioned to me. Any personal dealings with these people that you might care to share?
I am also looking on the web for good and bad reports as well, but I'd appreciate comments from here as well.

Fair Dinkum 02-28-2003, 03:58 PM No idea about them personally, but I will offer my opinion. The packages they have do not look too bad IMHO. Not a bad way to get in to streaming. Then if you find the popularity outgrows those plans, you can consider a dedicated server and installing Helix on it.
They have a fairly pricey charge for bandwidth overages (of course, it may not be too expensive, depending on their carriers), so you would want to monitor that closely if you go that route.
