Im currently looking for a new host for our site and a new forum at the same time as its currently on Ezboard and im sick of pop ups.

Im looking presently at :
Tera-byte
Venturesonline
F5
Wizards hosting

For forums Ive been looking at:
Yabb
phpbb
ikonboard

Anyone out there using a combination of these boards/hosts? If so hows it working out? Any recommendations on either boards or hosts?

Thanks

For the host, VenturesOnline is pretty good, you can't go wrong with them :)

I agree with HostAB, VO is pretty good and his support is great!
PS: Ninya, do you read your PM? :)

Every third post of you is "did you read your PM :) " - do you have to do this all the time?

As for a bulletin board...VBulletin is an awesome board if you want to spend the money, but they DO have a free version that doesnt have all of the bells and whistles. I have heard good and bad about Ikonboard and have heard pretty good reviews on phpbb.

Hope this helped!

Yes! I use Phpbb and is great!, not so Vbullentin but for a free BB I think that is the best.
There are a lot of hack for PhpBB and you can change a lot of things.

I use phpBB and I like it. If I could spend the money I would go with VBulletin

PhpBB doesn't have as many of the features, but it has all the necessary ones.

We use phpBB on our Web Development forum at:

http://www.webdevtalk.com

It is free and provides a lot of the features found in non-free BBS's. It isn't quite as nice as VBulletin, but VBulletin isn't quite as free as phpBB is. Also, you can get a lot of different hacks or mods for phpBB at:

http://hacks.phpbb.com

or you can hack the PHP yourself. Either way, I've been pleased with it thus far, and feel good recommending it.

Take care,

Brian

Kunal and me were talking and he asked me why would a host need a forum, yeah its nice, but a help desk would be the way to go, because unless you have an active board what good is it.

Kunal told me he was not biased when he made that statment

Whatever host you choose tell them you are going to be running a CGI intensive programs and that you will need to make sure that there is a low CPU load. Ask them what the average CPU load is on the machine you are getting put on and make sure it is not above 1.00.
