Im just trying to protect myself from 95th percentile - is there any way of capping bandwith on a server, to like 2Mb or somthing?

typically its done on the switch you are plugged into or a router and not at the server level.

yea hardware wise, what about bandwidth throttling?

You can usually request your data center to do it. Most will agree to do it on your behalf

we are buying a switch at the moment - around the $900 mark. Wich ones have a bandwidth throttling option?

usually you will find alot of level3 switches have such, its not likely any level2 type switches will have capping cap. other then just 10/100

hmm yeah - CBQ looks interesting, ill see if I can get my head around that.
