View Full Version : is dellz.com a good host?
techforce 05-28-2001, 04:48 AM i did a search and didnt find any info on em.
Are they a good host? I can only spend up to $70 per year on a host, is there anyone else better for this price?
Thanks for your help,
Brad
Akash 05-28-2001, 08:40 AM anyone that offers unlimited bandwidth for $15/year is etiher got a) a lot of money or b) a death wish
unlimited bandwidth is not possible no matter what anyone says...
Leyroy 05-28-2001, 09:04 AM They can't even spell!
Ericd 05-28-2001, 09:26 AM I don't even see the difference between the $15 and $70 plan
Leyroy 05-28-2001, 09:29 AM "Our E-Commerce Hosting plan is based on a Dual Pentium IIII processor with 1.5 GB of memory and utilizes RAID facilities. "
Look at that, "Pentium IIII processor"
Hmm... do they know at least how to do Roman Numerals?
Good catch on that one Leyroy. Too many mistakes on their page makes me thing that this is not a professional company. But then again, who knows. No one tested out their service.
cbaker17 05-28-2001, 12:21 PM Any company that would name their companys after dell, just for name recognition is a no go in my book, i wouldnt be supprised if dell goes after them if they hear about it.
scottyj0 06-01-2001, 05:27 PM I am currently hosting a web site under them and they have been great. I asked them about the name dellz and they said it was not intended to be name recognition. Their offical name is Dellz.com, not just dellz is what i was told. I would have to agree with them as any idiot can tell they are 2 different companies selling 2 different products and frankly i doubt dell would even care. I have been doing a lot of reading in this forum and it seems to me most of you must not have a life (or your whole world revolves around web hosting) as i have seen many nit picky items dicussed.

Scott: are you working for Dellz.com ? :D If not, i'm sorry ...but since you registred in June 2001 (today!) and this is your first post ...
Ericd 06-01-2001, 06:20 PM Scott, what's the site you host with Dellz.com ?
UmBillyCord 06-01-2001, 06:32 PM Dellz.net
Chicken 06-01-2001, 06:51 PM Scott just happens to be one of their local customers from the same town. Dell does in fact offer webhosting services, and I'd think they actually might care (just my opinion). Anywhooo... prices are cheap, some errors on the site, yadda yadda...

Wow. Then don't bother posting here -- you wouldn't want anyone to judge you by the loserly company you keep.
;)
JKLIVIN 06-01-2001, 08:39 PM bigmattyh what are you talking about, scott just did ; )
Dogma 06-01-2001, 09:10 PM Had a nice little humanclick conversation :D
Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'dellzcom'
dellzcom: hello how may we help you ?
you: hello! how much storage/bandwidth would i actually get w/ an account. I know that there aisn't any shuch thing as a unlimited hard drive
you: and bandwidth cost money!!
dellzcom: You are allowed to use what you need. We do recommend that if you use a lot of bandwidth or have a high demand web site because of scripts.etc we sugguest the high power or the ecommerce plan
you: but I see no difference. they are all unlimited
you: is there anything in your TOS that puts a limit on sorage/bandwidth?
dellzcom: The differences is in the hardware....no there isnt, please read. we currently changed our return policy which basically says that if you sign up and cancel the next day you will not get your money back...but if you are having trouble or just found another host down the road then you may request a refund.
Lets get some bandwidth hogging sites and sign up!!

I bet if they were to try and trademark the name dellz they'd have a pain in the butt trying to register it that's for sure.
Akash 06-01-2001, 11:42 PM have you noticed that their basic plan is now $18 instead of $15.........they must be losing money
kcoster 06-02-2001, 09:46 AM Two words - Fasthosts Reseller !!!
Billy 06-02-2001, 10:19 AM I'm gonnna try to get into a humanclick conversation and ask them these questions:
Whats the difference between the 3 plans, theyr all unlimited.
What would you do if i use the $18 plan and run 20 gigs of b/w a day and 5000 megs(5gigs) of diskspace.
Also, who owns your servers,or are you a reseller?
Their prices seem too good to be true.
Ericwenlong 06-02-2001, 10:33 AM Fasthosts reseller ? I think fasthosts only allow a total of 10 GB of bandwidth for the reseller account.
kcoster 06-02-2001, 11:13 AM I think they used to say "unlimited bandwidth" but changed it. I came to the conclusion after:
1. dellz.com & dellz.net are with fasthosts
2. they charge extra for the features that fasthosts charge extra for.
3. there are several images/portions of text that are copied from fasthosts site.
4. in their forum users complain of their sites being down (ie the recent fasthosts outage).
5. the higher plans are actually called silver.htm and gold.htm, hmmmm, Premier Site "Silver" and "Gold".
But I could be wrong ! ;)
Kevin
Chicken 06-02-2001, 04:18 PM I believe you are correct Kevin. Couple of domains they host are on the FASTHOSTS-UK-NETWORK. Not that that's bad or good, just mentioning it.
