View Full Version : When you just can't take it anymore
JeremyV 02-24-2003, 10:58 PM Ok, well it isn't THAT bad. But anyway, what do you do when you've had enough? What is your stress relief?
I think it is partly due to the cabin fever... this winter has been way colder than normal. It is miserable to leave the house, stuck inside all day, blah! Not to mention the economy, lack of income right now, and the added stress of trying to buy a new house. Throw all of that into the mix of trying to run two businesses and you have yourself a basketcase :D
Don't you just wish you could flip a switch on your brain and turn it off for a few days? ;) But anyway, yeah need to find time somehow to take a short break. Even if it is just going out for some beers and shooting pool with friends, just SOMETHING to get away for a few hours... it just never seems to happen :bawling:
So what does everyone else do with their limited amount of free time?

ScottD 02-24-2003, 11:10 PM I have a sure fire cure for cabin fever, it's been ongoing since Saturday morning.
1st, go outside and shovel 6 inches of snow. Not too bad, but you can whine to yourself "I'll never buy a corner lot again!" over and over until you are finished.
2nd, go outside again because the sump pump is persistantly on and that must mean that something is blocking it somewhere, must be all the snow! Shovel shovel shovel, break the pipe open, locate the icy spot, and again whine about the fact that the dimwits who installed your sunroom punctured your underground sump line and being lazy enjoying the finished sunroom didn't pay off when you should have been fixing the sump line instead of installing a cheesy PVC workaround thinking, "Duh, what'll happen in the winter?" and still doing nothing about it. Oh yes, back to the outside part. Fix it by rigging it up even worse than you had originally, but allowing gravity more lee-way. Fun!
3rd, go wash your car and try to dry it before the water freezes.
SchultzNY 02-24-2003, 11:16 PM Wow you must all live in my town.
matrosov 02-24-2003, 11:24 PM Go fishing :). If this does not work go see the g/f. If that fails unpack my AK and go to the range. I am not kidding :)
JeremyV 02-24-2003, 11:30 PM well the farthest I have to go to see the old lady is in the other room :D So that is out. And I tried washing my vehicle the other day, and the water instantly froze
and yes, winter sucks#@)(*#@)(*^
The Prohacker 02-24-2003, 11:43 PM I cut loose a little today..
I happend to have some m80s from the 4th, so I just started tossing them out into the snow drifts :D
If it gets to bad, I've got plenty of old monitors and I can take them out back and go office space on them :D
BuffaloWeb 02-24-2003, 11:54 PM I come to WHT and look for posts like Prohacker's:D

michaeln 02-25-2003, 08:52 AM Freetime. What is freetime. I don't believe I have ever heard this word Freetime before.... ;)
Seriously if you are so stressed you feel you need to post something like this to let pent up frustration out then I highly suggest forsaking everything for a few hours and just go somewhere, anywhere. To the neighbors house or something.
Lucky for me it isn't that cold where I live. ;)

CyberSol 02-25-2003, 09:52 AM I live in Spain so it isn't half bad altho it is quite cold and if I get stressed out I spend half the day playing a few games and killing people on the net hehehe
SchultzNY 02-25-2003, 09:57 AM Fragging makes the world go round.
LocalHoster 02-25-2003, 10:22 AM i randomly delete hosted sites.... :P
Nah... Just kidding :)
I dont find the webhosting industry to stressful unless the servers die then i just remain calm and fix things :)
turboweb 02-25-2003, 11:32 AM I go mountain biking, flying, skiing, driving my jeep offroading, take my wife out for the night, go to a nice mexican restaurant (i love mexican food)..
Hosting is a business, business is what you do to sustain your life. Don't let it run your life!
If you run your business like your taking charge of things your customers will appreciate it more then if you let it take over you as that will show to your clients and your friends and family.
We have been snowed in as well and i've gone stir crazy with my flue/cold that won't go away. I found time to update some sites i'm working on and redo my main site. check it out, http://www.turboweb.net and lemme know what you think! :)
NJHosting 02-25-2003, 11:53 AM When I get to stressed I just walk away for a little while. I have gotten things under good enough control that I can now take weekends off, not bad. But I have little to no problems with any of my customers and their sites so this allows me to do this with confidence.
The other thing I do is make sure I get to the gym at least 3 times a week, and I do my cardio workouts at home every evening, this helps a great deal with relieving any and all stress that I may have.
Spingen 02-25-2003, 12:40 PM Freetime, such a cherished thing. Once a week or twice a week try to set away some time to go out with a couple of friends to a bar. Try not to over due it, and try not to screw up your sleeping pattern.
It works nicely to give yourself as a reward for all the hardwork that you put in all week, and helps clear the mind.
tazd9t9 02-25-2003, 12:42 PM Go to the gym I take my stress and anger out on the machines and lose weight and get fitter at the same time :)

driving my jeep offroading,
Awesome, infact, I did that this saturday! I run a fairly large regional jeep site, and we had over 200 jeeps show up, and over 500 people. But at the same time.. since I was in charge of that, the stress never had time to go away because I had to deal with the media (interviewing for the news, newspapers, etc) and the cops and DNR who wanted everything under control...
But glad that is over now, should help a bit :D
turboweb 02-25-2003, 01:31 PM i want to take my jeep across america one of these days :) Last year i took it to Durango, Silverton and Ouray.. a boring drive from near philly to colorado, but well worth it once i was there. Nothing like having pictures of the roads you conquered up to 14,500 feet!
And a great way to escape!
NJHosting 02-25-2003, 01:58 PM I still say as far as the great escape, nothing beats going to the gym and pounding the iron, the more I lift the better I feel, and the more I feel the stress leave my body.

Good words of advise. You have no clue how much more relaxed you tend to be after a decent workout. ...and i guess the fitness part of it is just a bonus.haha.
