View Full Version : So when do we get some color around here?
Duster 05-27-2001, 04:14 PM I see some new icons and, presumably, a new release of vb, as there are a number of small changes in the appearance throughout parts of the forum. I just checked and there are still no styles other than default.
I, for one, am tired of all this drab gray. It reminds me of the skies outside right now. Thankfully, they are atypical.
With all the people, including others here, who use vb, perhaps someone will create or share some alternate styles, and perhaps they will be added, so we can brighten up the place. Think of is as a delayed spring cleaning and freshening up the place.
MattF 05-27-2001, 04:23 PM I'm hoping Carlos comes on to ICQ soon so I can get the old icons etc... from the backup. VB upgrade replaced many of the wht icons etc...
re: multiple styles.
That's a great idea. Send them to admin@webhostingtalk.com. If it's good and we use it on WHT then you'll get a free chart music CD from amazon.
alpha 05-27-2001, 05:00 PM so what kinda colors are we looking for here?
:D
oh and Matt, Carlos won't be back until the 28th (Monday)
he's in Florida right now, but i think he will still respond to his email :)
-Edward- 05-27-2001, 05:16 PM Why not give each setion its own style?
Cobalt forum for instance ..... maybe do it in the style of the cobalt site or at least the header and put in some nice pizza box machines. Add some life too it.
Security forum ..... something todo with security...... in the header
etc etc
Duster 05-27-2001, 07:56 PM If you're looking for suggestions, one of them can be an ocean style, with blues that reflect the sky and ocean around tropical islands
Some of the display themes in Windows 9x would make attractive styles here as well, Marine, Rose and Slate most notably.

...
Please, no green type on a blue background! :)
I happen to like the 'drab' grey.
klisis 05-28-2001, 10:51 AM I happen to like bluish and purplish. But no light blue, Dark/grey style blue.
Why no green, Mike?

Green is OK. Blue is also OK.
But green letters on a dark blue background is all but illegible.
kunal 05-28-2001, 12:43 PM blueeeeeeeeeeeee all the way
Annette 05-28-2001, 12:51 PM We're big fans of blue, as well. :)
CRego3D 05-28-2001, 09:44 PM A guy goes away for a couple of days .. and look at all the changes !!! :)
I like the new Icons .. very Nice
akashik 05-30-2001, 05:27 AM I agree with the people who like it the way it is. It's nice and soothing as a grey/blue board. Bright colors tend to put me on edge. There's enough brightly colored disasters online I can avoid without seeing it here as well
The contrast between text and background is good too - nice and easy to read.
Duster 05-30-2001, 06:09 PM That's the nice thing about styles (as I understand the feature). Each person can choose the style they prefer without being bound to someone else's tastes and drab color schemes.
Duster 06-08-2001, 01:20 PM Someone on the VBulletin site has a few styles. They can be found at http://161.58.84.213/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19372
Hopefully, the mods will get them and expand our color choices on an individual basis.
determinist 06-08-2001, 02:09 PM I think this current color theme is nice enough, maybe can just change the default icons to the previous old ones, i like that.
Duster 06-08-2001, 02:24 PM No change in the default color scheme is being discussed. Styles allow for individuals to choose what colors they want for their eyes only! Got it?
If you click on Profiles, go to Edit Options, down near the bottom you will see
Style Set:
You may pick a style set to browse with that may or may not override the default settings.
That is what is being discussed. With the addition of styles, the more colorful among us can choose a more appealing color scheme. The drab among you can remain with the present one.
It's a simple way to let everybody choose a color style that appeals to them.
Elena 06-08-2001, 07:12 PM Excellent idea Duster... I might just make a few styles in my spare time and contribute them. :D
I noticed a lot more message icons added.. woohoo :stickout
Duster 06-08-2001, 07:39 PM There are some nice styles shown there. Even the icon sets differ from one style to another.
Anyone who doesn't understand the concept of styles should take a look. There are links to the same site yet with 7 different styles. Each person can choose either the default scheme (the one we are seeing here at present) or one of their own choosing.
Look for the post that has (at the bottom of it)
My Style Sets:
Arizona Desert Sky | Cool Blue | Low Vision | Maria's Lilac | New Blue | Teal | Tika-Red
and click on at least 2 of those links. You'll see the exact same messages only in a different color from one style set to another.
It's a simple and reasonable way to let everyone choose their own colors.
JKLIVIN 06-12-2001, 09:23 PM two words, cobalt blue
