View Full Version : I need help to choose a hosting service
Marco JKD 05-26-2001, 02:58 PM Hi!
I'm an italian guy bored of our poor hosting services.
I've seen dozens of offers but I don't know if they are trusty or not.
I would like to register a domain (.com or .net)
I need a big amount of space (better unlimited)
possibly unlimited subdomains
no limit to band transfer
I don't need 24/7 telephonic assistance or other things like that... calling from here is very expensive.
The lowest price? I've seen offers form 4 to 10 dollars/month are they reliable?
I also need a entry level registrar with 10mb or so space..
Here I'll pay this service about 10 dollars a month. But since I need to register many domains (more than 1000) the price is very important
Thanks for your help and forgive me for my poor English
Marco.
ckizer 05-26-2001, 03:01 PM Sadly, unlimited bandwidth, and unlimted disk space are not realistic. More over, don't expect very much from $4 of hosting. Good rule to follow is you will always get what you pay for. There are of course always exceptions to the rule. Good-Luck!
Walter 05-26-2001, 03:11 PM If you really have to register more than 1000 domains I suggest http://www.dotregistrar.com at 6,79 $ per domain.
Marco JKD 05-26-2001, 03:46 PM Ok unlimited space is not realistic. Let's say 200 mb or something like that.
For the band.. I don't want to put a limit but 10 or 15 Gb are enough..
any suggestion?
Ericd 05-26-2001, 03:56 PM Hi Marco, as ckizer said, there's no such thing as unlimited space or b/w, but if you want to find a good host, look at this thread (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=3053), these are the hosts who post here. Also, you might want to make a post in the advertising forum where hosts could offer you packages.
Good Luck,
Cheers!
ckizer 05-26-2001, 04:48 PM Are you planning to host 1000 sites? How many sites would you be hosting?
mybiz 05-26-2001, 05:07 PM It sounds like you need a dedicated server if you are going to host that many sites.
Marco JKD 05-26-2001, 05:23 PM I am about to launch a new service over internet.
I need a good server for the main website and hundreds of domains for the website we'll register.
For the first one I need a good server, a lot of space and bandwidth and many subdomains.
The others ar basic.
The cost is very important because the whole operation will be financed from the regional or italian little company lab (my translation.. let's say public money). I am student and I cannot afford to pay more than they'll give me.
HostAB thanks for the thread but I don't know how to choose since I don't know how serious the hoster are...that's why I asked your opinions..
can you please explain what you mean with "you might want to make a post in the advertising forum where hosts could offer you packages. " ??
Thanks,
Marco.
Ericd 05-26-2001, 05:38 PM Most hosts here are really serious about their business.
By posting in the advertising forum, i mean make a post like the one you did here, saying the number of domains you want to host, b/w you need, etc or the dedicated server spec. (i.e. Single CPU, Dual CPU, MHZ, RAM, HDD, bandwidth, etc). Post it here (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=4) and the hosts will do offers to you, so you can choose the offer that best suit your needs.
Good Luck :)
Marco JKD 05-27-2001, 08:42 AM I'll post a mesage in the other forum right now..
Thanks,
Marco.
Ericd 05-27-2001, 08:46 AM You're welcome :)
Marco JKD 05-27-2001, 08:52 AM Do you think that I'll spend less by buying a dedicate server and organizing the space I need on my own?
Marco.
Ericd 05-27-2001, 09:22 AM If you plan to host 1000 sites, then yes you should get a dedicated.
You can get a dedicated for under $100 per month, though i don't know if they can handle 1000 sites, are they cpu intensives (i.e. many scripts)?
Marco JKD 05-27-2001, 09:31 AM No I don't think they'll have many scripts but I don't want to slow down the main site due the 1000 little sites...
Ok thanks for your help.. I'll check a couple of offers and I'll come back...
The project should be up in September.. prices will go down till then?
Marco.
