Hello,
I just wanted to know what will happen if I put the wrong IP when I configure the nameservers for my domain name ?
Like this :
Primary server : dns.anondns.net
IP : 216.171.70.3
Secondary server : dns2.anondns.net
IP : 216.117.70.4 <== voulountary mistake, the working IP is 216.171.70.4
I wanted to know if my domain name will be innacessible in this case or not ?
Thanks for your help

If your talking about through your registrars control panle, then usually it will correct it, as it does a lookup on the hostname, if not then it still would work because your primarys setup correctly if the primary name server goes down then yes your server will be unaccessible

Two things could happen. First, if someone is running a DNS server on the wrong IP address, the server will send back "no such address" errors, as well as (almost certainly) logging the fact that some fool is has delegated their DNS to them. This will mean that a) you're likely to get an email from them asking what's going on, and b) computers which get the error response from the DNS server will not be able to access the domain.
If there is no DNS server on that address, the request will simply time out and computers will query the other DNS server (which hopefully will give them the necessary response).

Well, I'm using the :uzi:Network Solutions control panel (yes they have one...) and :
1) It doesn't correct it automatically, it puts the wrong IP when I type my name server
2) The problem affects the Primary nameserver, not the second one like in my example

That probably means that the root nameservers have the wrong IP listed in the Host entry for your nameserver.
And what can I do to correct this ? (apart from changing the registrar)

Log back in and fix it. :)

I can't change the IP. It chooses the wrong IP automatically.
I guess I'll have to tell this to my host.

What you need to do is to contact the registrar and have the IP associated with the nameserver changed to the correct IP. This has nothing to do with the IP of the domain, but the IP of the nameserver.
Thank you :)
I'll tell my host to correct this.
