Suppose a web hosting company said for exmpale:

"More than 100,000 domain hosted" Does that MEAN they actually have real 100,000 customers or so far when they started business?

I realized some ISP site putting quote like this,m for instance:

***** has over 100,000 accounts

ValueWeb has over 100,000 accounts

iServer has over 80,000 accounts

Interland has over 100,000 accounts

Rapidsite has over 200,000 accounts

9NETAVE (Now Conternic) has over 90,000 accounts

pairNETWORKS has over 100,000 accounts

Virtilus has over 60,000 accounts

is this some of sick joke? But some are true but some are lying...

This is bad move for customers so they can get stucked, I hate to see that happens...

The big players surely have 100.000 domains hosted and more. But you have to consider that domain != customer, many customers have more than one active domain and I am very sure there is a big amount of parked domains. I know even some who host more than a million domains...

We've had visitors with over 50 sites each.. Reaching 100 or even 1000 I coul see possible. So for a large based hosting company to reach 100,000 I could see possible.

I dare not say that some hosts may and prolly would lie about something like that, how could you prove them wrong?!?

What annoys me is finding small or new hosts claiming to have customers from over 120+ countries. Yeah right. When I see this, I usually avoid them. I'm sure a few are being honest, but often, this is blatant lies.

i would like to point out tera-byte owns spaceports.com with over 500,000 users by itself, those , even though they are free hosting clients are still clients, which require support and make us some money (actually the average spaceports client makes me more than a redirection.net customer) those are part of the 1.2 million total.

What are you looking for? Number of domains hosted by a company or actual customers?

The former is easy to find. The latter is almost impossible.

And why do you ask?

By the way, it doesn't make a better company to host more domains than others.

Look for service. Period. There are only a handful out there. Good service makes for a great host.

Addendum: Joe there are about 13 MILLION domains right now. Even if a quarter of them are web servers, you should realize that companies like Interland etc. are actually hosting what they claim. 100,000 domains is really not much if you consider the domains out there!

AniG, please get your facts first before you shoot. This has already put you in trouble in another thread. Please practice restraint man.
