OK its like this. I have been trying like crazy to configure my control panel to connect with my email service (everyone.net).

The DNS settings are correct, because I am getting email notices that my mailbox has new mail. I think the problem is with the CNAME settings, but I am not sure. When I attempt to type the url of my email service I get a error message indicated that no such file exists. Here is what my control panel settlings look like.

mydomain.net has an IP of 66.xx.xx.xx
mail for mydomain.net is delivered to sitemail.everyone.net with a preference of 5
mail has an IP of 66.xx.xx.xx
www has an IP of 66.xx.xx.xx
mail for www is delivered to mydomain.net with a preference of 5
siteurl.everyone.net is an alias for mail.mydomain.net
Non-matching DNS requests forwarded to 66.xx.xx.xx

Just so you'll know, the url to get the email service should be http://mail.mydomain.net

Can anyone help me? What is wrong with this?

Thanks in advance.

Change to:

mydomain.net has an IP of 66.xx.xx.xx
mail for mydomain.net is delivered to sitemail.everyone.net with a preference of 0
www has an IP of 66.xx.xx.xx
mail is an alias for siteurl.everyone.net
Non-matching DNS requests forwarded to 66.xx.xx.xx

Example:

cfsforums.com has an IP of 66.51.108.2
mail for cfsforums.com is delivered to sitemail.everyone.net with a preference of 5
www has an IP of 66.51.108.2
mail for www is delivered to cfsforums.com with a preference of 5
Non-matching DNS requests forwarded to 66.51.108.2

Chicken,

Are you saying that instead of putting "mail.mydomain.net is an alias for siteurl.everyone.net" I should just input "mail is an alias for siteurl.everyone.net"?

Yes, that's how I have it... I've PM'ed you the URL (which I don't use, thus I didn't want to post it). Note that mine is set as 'mailbox' not mail but it that is how I set it up at everyone.net

if you put mail.mydomain.net is an alias for siteurl.everyone.net
the dns server is reading that as mail.mydomain.net.mydomain.net so the correct one is indeed just mail.

If you want it to work use my example as it is a real working example.

I don't get why you have two mail entries here exactly.

I made the changes yesterday. How much time should I allow it to take effect?

Day or two should do it.

Because some people type www.domain.com and other type just domain.com. By adding both you never miss an email.

Look at the default page when adding users and you will see that is says a persons email is user@www.domain.com and with this it will work.

Example:

http://www.cfsforums.com/~cfsforums/

I suppose so. Didn't think people actually typed in me@www.domain.com but maybe they do.

Used more with subdomains; user@sub.domain.com

actually its a real good idea to have both the mail records one for domain.com and one for www.domain.com that way if the cobalt interface forgets to write to the virtusertable (not that i would ever expect that to happen:)) you will still get mail

Apparently something is not right.

When I type in "mail.domain.net" it takes me to "www.domain.net", the frontpage of my website.

What am I doing wrong?

Where do you expect it to take you? It has the same IP as your site therfor it loads the site... However your MAIL is delivered accordingly.

PS. If you are using everyone.net for your mail just use their own utility to see if the MX is pointing correctly. It will tell you if everything is right.

I expect it to take me to the user interface where the user would enter his/her username and password. Instead it goes right back to my frontpage. However, there is a tool on the frontpage of my site that lets the user input his/her password and userid, but when that is done I get a page not found error.

The utility on everyone.net tells me that the MX is pointing there, but I cannot get to it.

Can you post your newer DNS setup again?

mail for domain.net is delivered to sitemail.everyone.net with a preference of 5
mail has an IP of 66.xx.xx.xx
www has an IP of 66.xx.xx.xx
mail for www is delivered to domain.net with a preference of 5
mail is an alias for siteurl.everyone.net
Non-matching DNS requests forwarded to 66.xx.xx.xx

I Think The problem is, everyone.net not supported for branding your email address again.

So, you can not use the siteurl.everyone.net again :(:(

Remove the bold entry above and wait 1-2 days. This is telling the server to resolve mail.domain.com to the IP, which is the same as the site's IP address (thus you are getting the main site).
