Has anybody used Active Web Hosting ? Any complaints- praises?

Did you ask your friend what the restrictions are ?

What I see is that on the Product Description page it mentioned that you have unlimited bandwidth and in the Contract, it reads :-

c. The use of unlimited traffic and bandwidth is for transmittion of web pages and web page content. This is to include all objects that are used in the proper display of web site content. This does not include software distribution, high activity graphic files, executable distribution, nor compressed file distribution.

So their unlimited is not unlimited after all.

they don't know. they only use the host as an online journal.

your not allowed to serve files...
just pics and html pages.

Cgi/ssi/php all go on a separate server that resolves to cgi.yourdomain. The cgi server doesnt jail you in your directory so you can roam around. Just some things you should know if you do sign up.
