View Full Version : Calling all WHT members in ONTARIO CANADA

vito

OK, here's the deal. I'm sending my wife and my daughter to Jamaica for a week starting Friday March 14 (March break). So here's what I'd like to do:

I am offering an open invitation to any WHT members who live in Ontario, Canada to come over to my house Saturday March 15 for a get-together. Pizza, BBQ steaks (who cares if it's winter), home-made lasagna (yes, I can cook very well, thank you), wings, etc, etc.

The Leafs are playing the Vancouver Canucks. We can watch the game on my 60-inch Toshiba. (go Leafs go)

All I ask is that you bring a beer or two, or a bottle of your favorite spirit. I think it would be great to meet all the Ontario-based WHT members with whom I chat every day.

I live in Brampton, Ontario. Don't worry, my house can hold all of you (it's pretty big...). Brampton, for those unfamiliar, is just north west of Toronto proper.

If you would like to come, post here, or PM me, or email me. I don't care. Just come by and have a good time.

Here's to meeting all my WHT neighbours...

Nice! I live just outside of Owensound (about 1 1/2 hours from ya). I would love to drop by, but I'm going to Blue Mountain on a Ski trip. Sounds like alot of fun though. If I did come, it'd bring some Smirnoff Ice instead of beer (hence my UN) Yeah, it's a girly drink, but it's good :D

BTW: Let me know if anyone drops by :)

vito

Skiing?? We have snow 12 months a year! Just ask any American!

Hang up your skiis for a weekend and meet your WHT buddies. :)

Ah well, can't meet everyone's schedule. Have a good time skiing.
Break a leg! (I don't mean that...)

I drive a Hyundai Accent. Not a lot of room on my car for words at all. I could put in part of my company name and then it'd look kinda dopey. (Or I could do it in NewsGoth Condensed at 1 px )

Anyway, I'm game for that idea. GO LEAFS GO!

Dude, I eat like a bird. If I have 10 potato chips the whole night, that's big eating for me.

And stickers for the Accent? It'll only take three or four and then I never have to do body work. And I could sure use some chick magnets (probably would help if I got out of the house too. :D )

Vancouver's hot at the wrong time. I like Vancouver but they're too hot too early. They'll end up fizzling late and be a first-or-second-round knockout in the playoffs because of that and their relative youth.

Roberts is back for our boys and look for him to lead us to...the conference final where we'll lose the deciding game late or the third or in OT about the 800th time.

TemplateGuy
02-22-2003, 02:37 AM
Well, Morrisons Line is going to be leading us :).
I doubt we will win the cup THIS year, but we will make it atleast to final round.

Nobody has to much skill for us to take on, it all boils down to who can take the pressure (Canucks).

This is the the season of the Canucks!! They'll be taking the cup home this year. Never since the '94 run for the cup have they played so good. I'm hoping for an all Canadian Final. Either the Leafs or Sens against the Nucks. That would be sweet!

Vito - sorry man, don't currently reside in Ontario. I'm a BC'er (can ya tell). Got some Grandparents currently living in South Hampton (Owen Sound) maybe they could drop by. :D

I can't drive alone until the end of June.

Is there a Go-Train station around there?

Ill bring a 24 :D

Perhaps you could hop a ride with porcupine. Same neck of the woods. Hamilton, right?

Country music?? Let's put it this way - if anyone even mentions the name Garth Brooks, he'll be cordially escorted to the door by the bouncer.

maccloud - You can bring your girlfriend. Although she may feel out of place - she would likely be the only female...

Like the NHL refs (particularly a certain guy with incredibly stiff hair that stiffed the Leafs in '93, but I'm not naming any names) would allow an all-Canadian final. It'd be bad for TV in the US, and they have to keep the US markets happy. As sad as it is to say, I think it'll be a long time (if at all) before we see two Canadian teams in the final. There hasn't even been one Canadian team in the final since '94 and only one (Toronto) that's reached the conference finals. That can't be totally coincidental.

02-22-2003, 01:02 PM
The Leafs are goin all the way this year, with Roberts there unbeatable! He is an amazing help to this team, so aggresive, he just gives the whole team a boost. What a player.

As for the Canucks, I like Bertuzzi and Morrison, two very good players and they could lead the Knucks to the cup, I can see a possible all Canadian Cup this year.

No worries. Lots of room. Sure, you can leave the next day.

Hey, Mesum. Is zombo.com really your site??? My 8 year old daughter LOVES your site. She forces me to go to it whenever she comes into my office for a chat. She insists on having it in the background. She even "chants" it when we go for a drive somewhere. (Gotta admit, though, it drives me crazy sometimes... )

Technically speaking, if you eat like a bird, you are eating ALOT, not very little. Birds need a lot of energy to keep up with the constant energy required for flight.

I guess i'll drive anyone in on my way, i'll probably bring my GF, that'll leave 2-3 seats in the back for anyone needing a drive within a reasonable distance of Hamilton through Brampton. Our facility is right off Front and York btw (close to where a bunch of these people work/live it seems).

I must say that no Canadian team will win the cup for a long time! Its sad but this is a business and if the USA isn't happy, hockey is as good as dead!

Remember the Canadian Womens Team in the olympics? I don't know what the refs were thinking...except lets try and make team USA Win...Guess what though...Canada was TOOOOO good!!

Thanks. No worries on the food, though. I can make enough food to feed a small army (I'm Italian, remember? :D ) Just bring whatever liquid refreshments you want and the rest is taken care of. And I would prefer to have a fixed list of members who will be showing up. As you can appreciate, I do not want to just post a home address for any and all. I'd rather know who's coming... ;)

And yes, you have a couple of weeks to brush up on PHP/HTML. :)

I'm not sure if your post is a yes or no. Could you post when you know if you're coming? Please do it soon. As I said, I may cut it off soon...

[*added*] - Heh, that's a new one. I just got a call from someone who bought some tutorials from me a few months ago. He just recently changed hosts, and was having difficulty in logging into his new control panel. So he called me for support...

Tower, how are you guys gonna get back downtown?? I'm assuming porcupine isn't going to drive all the way back if he's located in Hamilton.

I'm uncertain if i have a spare seat, i know AdminME was pondering going, i was leaving a seat for him if he wanted it, but i'm uncertain as he hadn't contacted me. Depends on him I guess =).

My wife is going to take our digital camera on their trip to Jamaica. So can someone confirm that they will bring a camera to the get together? I think the rest of the gang at WHT might be interested to see what you all look like...

Hey, David. If you hop on a plane from BC and come, I'll get one of my busty friends at the local Hooters to pick you up at the airport. :D

You'll be outnumbered, though. You'll be the only one here rooting for the Canucks. But that's OK. When the Leafs kick your team's ass, we'll have the last laugh... :emlaugh:

I've got one but at last check it didn't work. I may have to call in the extended warranty at Future Shop for the third time (it's the only time I'd even remotely consider getting one and it's come in so handy.)

I need to get some new pics of our cage as we've added a new chunk of servers (doubling the capacity since our last set).

Cool, Mark. It's only a week away. If possible, please post in the thread early in the week next week. I'd like to have a firm list of who's coming.

BTW, nice site design. But is this supposed to show up at the top of the page?:

Haha thanks Vito, you are not supposed to see that! I am working on the site right at this moment, making a little tracking script just to see who is visiting us from where and was testing to see if I could pick up host addresses, hence not being run locally.

As for the hockey gathering, I am actually Scottish, so do not have too much of a background on the game, but am getting into it a little, and would really like to meet everyone. I was quite surprised to see the number of WHT members who are in the same area.

Ummm, PHP/HTML quiz? Mark, can you show me a sample of what you mean? I am just taking on a local design customer where I have to provide his site members with "online exams", the results of which are to be stored in a MySQL database. Do you do something similar?

Quite the coincidence we have here. I was actually talking about the PHP/HTML quiz that a post earlier in the thread was discussing about occuring during the intermissions. The funny thing is, I actually do PHP/MySQL programming, and would be glad to hear more.

Say, I'll post back later today to see if I'm up for it. Tommorrow evening I'm actually picking up a friend from the airport who's coming from Florida.

Got alot going on with some new servers coming online, tons of new signups and getting a support desk online, just not alot of free time for a few weeks..

maybe if you have another one of these I can make it :)

Dont forget to take some pics for us! :D

Yeah I don't think I can make it. I do infact have the rest of this week off, but I still have a bit of work to catch up on; in addition to my friend from the states coming up for the weekend.

Anyways, tell us all how it goes. And I hope sometime in the future someone else holds another (Canadian only) WHT get together! (Perhaps I could, who knows...) ;)

BTW- I'm sure glad I missed last weeks weather too! Sounded pretty miserable, I hear. Switzerland was quite nice, actually. Neuchatel, the city I stayed in had a few days in which I actually wore shorts.

That's a real shame. I hate hearing when a child is sick. Makes us all feel so helpless. I do hope he gets better...

flitcher:
Well, we had a very nice time tonight - porcupine, his girlfriend (Casey), and me. Yup. A total of one WHT member (and guest) showed up. While there are indeed some very valid reasons for not making it (as in ljprevo's case), I was rather disappointed in the turnout. There were some that said they would come and were supposed to show up, but did not. Seems like an odd way to handle an invitation. I went to some effort to prepare food for x-number of people. I did not think people would just not show up. But that's just how I see things.

So I don't think I'll be attempting anything like this again anytime soon.

Myles, it was very good to meet you in person. I enjoyed the evening with you and Casey. :)

Twas interesting, nice huge TV :). Was nice hearing some of the inside secrets of demodemo :D. Btw, it's "Casie" :) Thats allright though, not like she'd ever take the effort to read this thread, too long :D.

I'm also curious where everyone was, we were late (hard to be fashionably late when nobody else shows!), it's a good thing we didn't go to the effort of making any food ourselves for the same reason.

Well either way, good to put a face to the name :).

Yeah, my wife has been calling the hospital all night, they said he is doing better. He may be able to come home today, or by tomorrow.

As far as the turn out, if people were not going to go, they should of had the courtesy to give advanced notice and say they would not make it.

Hey if all else fails. I will come there by myself and hang out with you. I have never been to Toronto. I spend a lot of time going to Sarnia and London, and have been out to Niagera falls (which look 100 times better from the Canadian side ;)

But it will have to be a game against your favorite team and mine, the Red Wings. :D
