I had a nightmare trying to cancel our hosting account with these guys when they acquired virtualscape a few months ago. I must have made 15 phonecalls and sent some 50 emails before they finally honoured my cancellation request.

A+net

I use to use these guys for my 56k dial up before I went with comcast @home. They were ok, never had any problems with them, and called customer support I think once or twice about connection speeds. But other than that it was fine.

You might want to check one former A+ customer's opinion.

My personal experience comes in the form of three pre-sale e-mails that took four days to be answered (I don't know why I actually bothered sending a third e-mail anyway). If pre-sale questions take that long to be answered, think about how long after-sale support questions will take to be answered.

I've been hosting two co-located servers with Hostcentric (aka maxim.net) since 1997.

When they first started doing co-lo, they were offering a 5mbps pipe for $500/mo - which at the time was unheard of. However, since day one they have done the old "nickle and dime" routine charging outrageous amounts for very small things - such as $250/mo for DNS service!

I'm still currently with them, but actively seeking a new dedicated host. As of right now, the equipment I have with them is my own.. and in this day and age maintaining your own equipment just isn't the way to go.

With so many dedicated providors out there offering cogent bandwidth systems for such incredibly cheap prices, you would think Hostcentric would have changed prices to stay competitive. Not the case... as the industry gets cheaper, they get more expensive.

So long story short... they're a good group, and give good tech support. But if you're looking for cost-effectiveness, then keep looking :)
