Ok here is a question for y'all is there a script around that will allow you to track a specific user's path through your site? For example, I believe Yahoo's storefront software allows you to track a specific customer's path start to finish as they go through your site and eventually make a purchase. I imagine this is done with CGI scripts and perhaps a cookie. Anyone know of any scripts that will allow you to do this? I have a customer who wants to track individual behavior on his site without collecting identifying data. I also thought this might be useful for figuring out how folks use your site. Ideas?

We use a CGI script by www.websitereporter.com which does this. Their stats are pretty good too. They have a free demo that you can download and test out.

I believe most of the established stats packages or services such as www.webtrendslive.com are able to track a user's path through a site, as well.

This might not be exactly what you need but... HumanClick does this. It tells you where they came from, everypage they go to, time on current page, and total time in whole site. It's very simple to use the tracking feature without the chating.

We also use Human Click for these purposes, you just need to paste a code before </body> and you can track your user within your site. Besides you may also chat with your visitor from your site. There is a free version.

Thanks Mark we will check those packages out. When it comes to Humanclick it's good for tracking folks in an indirect way but unless the latest version has changed there is no way to save the data and you have to manually watch what the folks are doing. This is tough if you have 50-150 people on your site hence the desire to simply log a given user's path.

Ok Web Trends Live looks cool but I think my client will fall over when I tell him "Oh yes we can do this but it will cost you $500 per month." On to other options.

Anybody tried Webtrends Log Analyzer? This appears to be perhaps a less expensive (but still somewhat expensive) option.
