I am almost ready to jump from reselling to a dedicated server from VO. Although I'm certainly not an expert, I'm somewhat familiar w/linux and have a RedHat server setup at home.

About how long does it take to get everything configured and ready to sell accounts? - ie. when my machine goes online will it be a day or several weeks till it's ready to use?

My highest price plan currently has java applets installed - what will I need to do to set this up on a new machine?

Current plans also have a shared SSL available - What needs to be done to set this up (besides purchasing the certificate)?

Is there any simple way to pull my client's current email configurations and re-load them into the new machine? If they have 50 accounts set up I don't want them to have to re-configure all them by hand.

Sorry about all the newbie type questions but any help would be appreciated...

Dean

?#1 What do you start
I recommend start setting up your server. You must consider every aspect. ie software, hardware, server load, administration, security
Sometimes this is a very taxing task.
What features are you going to offer?
...SSL? ..Frontpage? ...Email? How are going to provide support?

?#2 How Long.
This all depends on your level of skill with:
1. Redhat
2. TCP/IP
3. Compiling and installing software
4. Troubleshooting
5. Patience

Don't forget before you go live...... TEST TEST TEST

?#3 Java Applets
What kind of Java applets are you using.

?#4 SSL
You can download the mod_ssl rpm from redhat refer to the documentation on generation of a request certificate
You will need to generate a key based on your server, then send off with money to verisign.

?#Email
The transition of your email accounts can be simple or complex... Depending on what email software your current configuration is on. A complete understanding of email software is imperative. There are typically 2 types of email. ./Maildir and .Mailbox. Ask your current host what their package is.

Good luck Dean

I think you are going to need some.
