Alex[nl] 02-18-2003, 09:42 AM Wel 2.2. mln credit cards.. you would assume a rather big e-commerce site or a credit card processor maybe (?)
markblair 02-18-2003, 09:55 AM The hacker breached the security system of a company that processes credit card transactions on behalf of merchants, Visa and MasterCard said.
Although this doesn't specify exactly, it wasn't Visa or MasterCard that was hacked. It appears it was some sort of processing company.

Same here.
You would think Visa/MC would make them halt operation.
PayPal? Hummm? Who would have THAT many card numbers?

There are companies that do nothing but open bills and process payments. You may have a credit card issued by your local bank but the bill comes from -- and payment goes to -- Dallas or North Dakota or Georgia.
The Dude 02-18-2003, 06:19 PM Seeing as 5 million peeps cant all change thier info,im wondering if whoever d/l'ed the info, will use it against people????
How the hell do you store 5 million FULL INFO card info (Geez,it must be 500megs anyway)
The Dude
The people whos data was lifted can and will have new cards issued to them. The problem is, I doubt all of them will be notified..
Neo3Net 02-18-2003, 07:40 PM Yea I hope so. I wonder if this is a good time to get any chargebacks going :) just kidding :)

Artashes 02-19-2003, 08:23 PM The last I've heard on CNN today was 8,000,000 cards: VISA, MasterCard, AMEX and Discovery.
They invited Mitnik to comment. He delivered the truth. ;)

NEW YORK (CNN) - The Secret Service and the FBI Wednesday confirmed they have been involved for the past two weeks in trying to track down the computer hacker who breached the security system of Data Processors International, which processes credit card transactions on behalf of merchants.
Mbarb 02-19-2003, 10:51 PM By day I work in a small financial institution and we are issuing new cards for our members that may have had their cards compromised by this hack.
