With all the talk going on about cracking (the correct term for what many refer to as hacking), I thought some people might like to be awar eof a couple of sites that deal with security issues. One is Root Shell at http://rootshell.com/ There are a lot of news stories along with helpful information. You can read about the two crackers sentenced to death among other tales.

The other site is Security Focus at http://www.securityfocus.com/ Neither site limits their reporting to computer and Internet issues only, but include other electronics as well.

Also, in the U.S., the FBI will investigate in many cases if you request they do so. Since the Internet crosses state boundaries, breaking into a server falls under their jusrisdiction. I know someone who had the FBI investigate when someone attacked his mail server and added thousands of names to his mailing list.

This is the same guy who later got a dedicated server at dellhost.com, which I've made mention of.

So, if you live in the U.S. and your server is cracked, youmay want to think about calling the FBI. There's nothing like a cracker sitting in prison, with no computer, to give them time to reflect of their evil ways and changing their life for the better. Prison is the right place for them, and some are put to death, just rewards for criminals.
