I got that too when I installed Windows 2000 Pro, what you did is you installed it over your prevous windows, and you are really screwed, if you have any files that yuo want I hope you know dos commands, to get them off let me tell you what I did
1. Started to Panic and did not tell my father what I had done yet.
2. Inserted Windows 98 start up disk into the floppy drive
3. restarted the computer,
4. with cd rom
5. do not format but when you get to the dos commands you can access anything......just like using telnet.
hope this was some help

If you need to get back in and you dont have any usernames of importance on the system then you can goto www.sysinternals.com and download NTFS DOS, once you have it then boot from the floppy and you will be at a command prompt
1. navigate to C:\WINNT\system32\config
2. delete the file in there called "sam"
3. restart and your password will be reset to a blank password for the username "administrator"
if you want to recover the boot of the system then you will need to insert and boot from the Win 2000 CD and then choose to recover the Boot files.
good luck

if the above doesnt work you can use the same method except copy the sam file to a floppy disk and then use l0pht crack to crack the SAM file to get the passwords.
maybe deleting the "sam" file in the last message would be a mistake, just RENAME it instead!
