Hey all,
Just wonder whether anyone can show me the STEPS in setting up my website (with the domain name I registered with 000Domanins.com) in my Personal Web Server which is running in my PC (WIN98)? And I am using cable modem and a static IP address and constant connection.

I know I have to point the DNS from the my registrar (000Domains.com in this case)to my ISP domain name right? But in the registrar site, it asked me to type in the "Server Hostname" not the IP address! I emailed 000Domains.com, and they replied me the following:

*********
First you have to find a name server or run your own name server. You will
put the name server information using the Domain Manager. Your visitors will
get your IP from the name server.

You can ask your ISP to use their name server or you can set up an account
with one of the free DNS services (such as mydns.com/myinternet.com)

To change your name servers:
Login to Domain Manager, using your domain name, username and password.
Click on the "Name Servers" link at the top. In the next screen replace the
primary and secondary name servers with those of your hosting company's name
servers and then click Save Configuration. It may take up to 24 hours for
the changes to become effective.
********

Later, I went to http://www.dhs.org/ to signup for free DNS service. And I created a new the blow DNS:

Hostname: CC2000-a (the name of my computer)
IP: 23.12.111.21 (my Static IP address)
Mail Exchanger: (left blank)

Next, I went back to 000Domains.com to put in the new DNS server which is CC2000-a.dhs.org...IT DIDN"T WORK! By the way, 000Domains.com asked for Primary and Secondary DNS Server!!! How do I fix the problems?

I probably did something wrong...please advise

Thanks for your time.

RAY

Use www.mydomain.com, (http://www.mydomain.com,) a free service that solves your problem. You then enter ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com at 000domains.

Yeah, I know! But there is a charge of $39 per year to use the service - "mydns" service(after the trial period)!

Say I use mydomain.com, do I just need to enter my IP address of my PC..that's all?

Thanks,
Ray

The hostname is the name of your domain not the name/hostname of your computer. Create a DNS record for your domain and point it to your IP (eg. hostname:hostinvestigator.com ip: 208.216.57.72 hostname:www.hostinvestigator.com ip: 208.216.57.72). Then change your domain records to point to the DNS server hosting the domain/IP info.

Note: After adding to the dns server it will take a few hours to update. After changing your domain record it could take upto 72hrs to full update throughout the internet, due to IP caching etc... So once you've carried out the above steps give it a day or two.

Also note that the DNS server details you changed/updated at 000domains.com are wrong you should have entered the following:

primary:
NS1.DHS.ORG 209.249.50.99
secondary:
NS2.DHS.ORG 207.71.8.95

If it justs ask for hostname don't type IP as well.
