Hello,
even if this is my first post here, i'm reading tons of posts for 2 months now, looking for a hosting who may be good for me.

I need to host 2 sites, both with EU/NA/JA visitors.
I've focused on HostingMatters and UnitedHosting (they're quite famous here).

The plans i would choose have the same price:
UnitedHosting --> HostBronze (+ Additional Domain hosting): 11$
HostingMatters --> B1000 (using Addon domain): 11$

The features thy give are ok for my needs.

I've visited their forums and responses to questions and issues are really fast for both of them, so for the assistance they're ok.

I've also checked at groups.google.com: here there is a difference:
HostingMatters has many posts (almost good), UnitedHosting has only one, dated Dec 2002 (i wonder why, UH is on business since 1998, maybe they recently changed name ?)

About the connections, HM uses NAC, UH uses EV1, but since i'm not a net guru this doesn't mean much to me... (suggestions on this ?)

I really need an help on choose, it would be fine if someone has personal experience with both.

I'm wondering which would be your choice between HM and UH ?

Thanks

NAC and EV1 are just the datacenters that their servers are located in. NAC had some problems recently, but that is *very* rare. EV1 used to have a problem here and there, but have been solid as a rock for as long as I can remember now. They even were up during the latest worm attacks a few weeks back.

Honestly, you should just flip a coin. You can't go wrong with either one from the look of the research you've done.

The reason that you see Hosting Matters more often on alt.www.webmaster and other such usenet groups is because a person from there is active among those newsgroups. Matt and another person from UH are active here, thus you'll see more information about them here.

HostingMatters hands down. Wouldn't even think twice from what I've read and heard for quite some time now. They just don't have a plan that fits my needs.

How about this for a possible 3rd option: Host one domain with each for a few months, and see which one you gravitate towards.

I recently signed up with UH and I'm very happy. My previous host was fine but UH fits my personality better. With both hosts, it was month-to-month and the price was the same, so its low risk. I was willing to pay the extra month or so to find which one I was more comfortable with.

I agree HostingMatters all the way, Martie is well respected for what he has achieved by many.

Hello,

I'd say go with UH. Matt is a great guy and very helpful. You most likely won't regret signing up with them.

Annette (Hosting Matters) and Deb (FutureQuest) are the two lady web hosts that post at WHT. I never see them with any customer service issues. Maybe it's the woman's touch (sensory, perceptions, feeling). How many other female web hosts are they?

...what was that you were saying, Martie, about "time to add 'She-Geek' to the sig again"? :)

intellec, I'm a female web host. I think I've seen two or three others around. (susannad? is she a web host? I can't recall right now.)

More than some people might think. I believe there was a thread here once upon a time where I listed a whole string of female hosts that I knew off the top of my head.

Apologies to the original poster, since their thread went off on a tangent like just about every other thread here does. :)

Thank you guys for replies.
I hoped that someone else who tried directly both hosting could help, but i know this is not easy.

The majority seems to be for UH, but i hope i will have more inputs.

I would go with hostingmatters.com. I've never seen Annette be anything but nice and professional here. On the other hand, UH-Matt of unitedhosting.co.uk has not always been nice when replying to people in this forum.
