Hello All

How much does Oracle 8i license cost
I suppose there are 2 versions enterprise and workgroup if i am not mistaken,

And what kind of hardware would oracle machine require.

How much money have you got? :D That's the short answer. The long answer is that Oracle licencing depends on a whole lot of factors including the machine/s it being hosted on. Number of concurrent connections. stc, etc... That's the enterprise version. Sorry I don't have any more helpfull info.

You can download it for free from the oracle web site. Its free for personal/non-commercial use (eg for development purposes). Hardware requirements are completely dependent on performance requirements. I set up an oracle 8 database on a RH Linux/166MMX/128MB for development/testing purposes. It uses a lot of hard disk space to create a tablespace though - almost 1 Gig.

I don't know about the pricing of the personal version.

The most expensive part is SUPPORT. How much support do you want and get ready to spend a major buck... :)

If you search on Oracle's site there is a free (read _bad_ ) version of Oracle 8 to download. I would think it a nice place to start for a newbie looking to learn Oracle.
