View Full Version : Virtual Hosting Plans
seeker 05-22-2001, 02:59 PM I'm going to decide what sort of plans shd I offer to my customers (future) :D
This is Linux based hosting :)
Suggestions needed with disk space & bandwidth ;)
I'm gonna to offer a static IP for the smallest pacage also.
Where shd i start to offer mySQL
Where shd i stop--500MB & 20GB, 1GB & 30GB,????
Crooner 05-22-2001, 04:05 PM I would offer them unlimited disk space and bandwidth for around 5.99/mo. Marketed properly, this will get you the largest number of clients in a shortest period of time. I'd throw mysql in as well
TFPIC
CWIhosting 05-22-2001, 04:09 PM Yes, that may work, but sooner or later they will all run away when you can't back your claims to offer all this, and then your name will be tarnished for good.

Either you are joking or you are not serious :stickout
Don't try it or you will be out of the business soon. FYI: most of the customers are now getting aware that there is no such thing called "unlimited".
Seeker,
I think you should offer 5 to 6 plans.
Plan 1 - 100 MB with 2 Gb
Plan 2 - 200 Mb with 5 Gb
Plan 3 - 300 MB with 10 Gb with My SQL
Plan 4 - 500 MB with 17/18 Gb with MySQL
Plan 5 - 1000 MB with 30/32 Gb with MYSQL
Make sure you setup the monthly price after some calculation. Hint - Plan 2 shoud be benificial then two
Plan 1.
You will find many hobbiest and beginers (lerners) with your starting plan1 or 2 and if you will allow MySQL with these plans, there are more possibilities of those client trying to learn, and seek help to debug/coding problems... if you will start helping with those problem you may not able to offer proper and even support to all your other clients and if you will refuse, some of may disgrace your company's image (becasue they don't understand difference between support and teaching).
Crooner 05-24-2001, 06:09 AM Sorry about the comment earlier.....I thought it was clear I was joking.
TFPIC - Tongue Firmly Planted In Cheek.
I am of the opinion that we are selling too much - too cheaply. Even with what I would call a median priced host (ie - 200MB, 5G plan for $15/mo), if all our clients used all their capacity we'd lose money just on the server lease - not including any amount set aside for customer service. Of course some hosts don't plan on providing any customer service
By constantly providing more and more at lower and lower prices we've turned the hosting market into a poorly serviced commodity - just look at all the complaints about hosting companies. We've priced ourselves so low that we can't afford the extra support people and backup hardware to handle emergency situations. Customers get mad and move to another host with an even more cynical attitude.
We need to raise the bar a bit - start providing top notch service and not be afraid to charge for it..
Walter 05-24-2001, 06:37 AM To lower a price is very easy, to go up is hard. :D
lalaweb 05-24-2001, 07:42 AM You see???!!! I KNEW he was joking :D :D :D

Adam_S 05-24-2001, 07:43 AM We up'd ours not long ago.. still low but did get a few complaints..
If you are just starting aim at a high price and bring in the business customers first. They are less likely to change host every other week and so you have a base income to start building your business.
Do special deals etc to attact the crowd. (people like a good bargain)
Moving into the personal world takes much more resource in time, effort and money.
seeker 05-24-2001, 02:02 PM Thanks all - specially m6 & Adam@OpenHosting
Tell me a set of good plan names;
bronz, silver, gold etc..;)

Adam_S 05-24-2001, 02:10 PM No problem..
