View Full Version : Operating a Hosting Company
dustin[s31] 05-22-2001, 11:52 AM Ok, here's the deal. I have a domain (s31hosting.com) and I have a design. But, I do not have the time to run a hosting company (since I'm running a network of sites as well).
Here's what I'm wondering... Is there a company out there that specializes in operating websites? Like they could run my hosting company, operate it, be the support, etc and I pay them a monthly fee? I already had to pay for a design and a domain and I have that stuff, I just need a team to run it.
Anyone know of any companies like or similiar to this? I'd be interested to here what anyone has to say.
Thanks!
Walter 05-22-2001, 12:01 PM I am not sure if I understand you fully. What do you the other company to do for you?
[ ] Support
[ ] Administration
[ ] Sales
If you only bring in the sales IMHO it would be better to join an affiliate program. Most time is spent on Support and administration so if you "only" do the sales most of your price will go to the other company, not to you.
dustin[s31] 05-22-2001, 12:07 PM I am apart of an affiliate program. But I'm looking for something bigger... something better.
Jaiem 05-22-2001, 01:59 PM Some hosts do have sales agent type programs. You do the selling and they do the billing and tech support.
Anyway you look at it however, you just can't throw up a site and site back hoping to make sales. At the very least you have to put in the time to sell/market.
Synergy 05-22-2001, 02:43 PM How much of a monthly fee are you talking about? :D

iFuseDavid 05-23-2001, 01:04 PM I would be able to take over billing for you. I use quickbooks pro 2001 to do the accounting and customer mangerment. I can give you detailed reports and all the good stuff. So if you are interested contact me and we can talk about it.

gnorthey00 05-28-2001, 11:46 AM If you sign up for a reseller account at Hosting Matters (www.hostmatters.com), they will do billing, network operations, etc. for you.
You sould still have to do support, sales and run the web site itself, but you could probably find someone that would do support for you (for technical jobs, there are always high school students, I should know, I am one of them). I suppose if you found some local 'kid' who knew a lot of this stuff, he'd quit his jobbagging grocieries and mowing lawns for you.
I suggest if you do something like that you get the kid a business license and hire his business for a flat fee or something.
SECUREDNETWORKS 05-28-2001, 02:03 PM Now would you be providing the server with the connection or are you looking for a complete package? Server, managed, support, sales, and admin?
Dylan 05-28-2001, 07:46 PM I'll run it provided you do the marketing :D
