Anyone ever deal with or hear anything about Layerone( Colo company)? www.layerone.com
Also Wondering if anyone knows anything about Internap they seem to charge about $500 a month for a megabit of bandwidth (3 mbit minimum). They sent me some documentation listing verisign as one of their large customers.
Internap seems to be a provider that routes data over the quickest route offered by the best large bandwidth provider at the time. Perhaps another word for "great peering contracts" or "reseller" I don't know. I don't care if they give me good service and connections that perform well.
So far InterNap's sales team has been very responsive, and informative.
Anyone have any info on InterNap and LayerOne?

NAC uses Internap for a primary paid transit provider. I know I have been very very happy with the quality of traffic that goes over internap. And unless you buy in bulk you prices will be high.

Is $1500 a month for a 3 meg pipe burstable to 100 mb. too much? Overage bandwith is charged at $500 per Mbit. So if I transfer 5 mbps I will be charged $1500 + 500. I think my Level3 quote was higher than Internap. $1750 for 1 mbps burstable up to 5mbps with $380 per mbps average transfer over 1 mbit.
It seems Level 3 is cheaper at the low end (below 5 mbps). The 100 mbps burst from Internap may be advantageous for a webhost with bursty traffic, at higher sustained transfers.
Well I got a quote from YIpes for $450 per megabit. The guy I talked to today said that they are multihomed with UUNET and Level3. The good thing about Yipes is that they will give me as little as 1mbps transfer where Internap wants a minimum of 3mbps.
Im looking to start very small so the cheaper more scaleable solution is better.
Thanks for the response :)

To tell you the truth you might be better colocating at a colo that provides BW not a carrier neutral facility to start until you can bring your BW up. Your are still missing the $100 per meg in backhaul costs.

Ok so if I go with a Colo that actually charges me for GB transfer until I am paying about what I would pay for a dedicated line? Then pursue a carrier to provide bandwith?
The only company around me that I have seen so far that does that is *****. I think INFLOW may provide data by the GB transfered.
Youre right. I probably wont transfer enough data at first to warrant a dedicated highspeed line. There are some other out of state places that I like but I cant get over the idea of sending my boxes so far that I cannot visit them occasionally. :)
Ive got another question. I have a opportunity to purchase 6 compaq DL360's complete with 2 18 gb drives and compaq lights out Insight boards. I forget exactly what they are going for (about 4.5K each) they are expensive. I actually use compaq every day, but I havent seen many hosts offering SCSI drives, RAID 1 and Lights out remote management in their dedicated server packages.
What do you think I could host those puppies out as dedicated servers for?
Thanks.

You will have a very hard time selling them, in my opinion.

Internap is not for those concerned with price. I've dealt with them, they are all about quality -- at any cost.

NAC has 2 100 Mbit connections to them. All I know is I am paying nac a fair price, and I get to use internap :)

I agree with Jay about the servers, you will have a hard time recovering cost, especially here where it is 80% price and 20% everything else.
