Okay, so I have a RaQ4, and I'm setting up some virtual accounts for my customers. I have a question...how do you go about letting these customers access their accounts via their webbrowsers until they change their nameserver settings with their registrars? Most folks will want to test their new sites, and I can't figure out a way to do it without giving them all dedicated IPs.

Also, I have CGI enabled, so why doesn't the admin program create a CGI directory in the /web directory when it sets the account up?

If its a shared IP they can't access control panel untill domain has changed over.

Just give them the IP adress and make them a user/pass for FTP

Doesn't sound like a very good solution...my customer will want to test their sites before swinging the nameservers over. Any other thoughts?

thanks..that's very very helpful. :(

On another note, I notice your RaQ is hosted with rackshack...how can you offer dedicated IPs with all your plans when rackshack won't hand them out for all accounts??

Dedicated IP's can be purchased for a one time 10$ fee through us, accounts setup get hosted on a shared IP.

Rackshack sells IP's.

That is helpfull..... create a demo for your users......

http://demo.domain.com

and then have a demo/demo for cpanel

One of the ways you can accomplish this is to set up a subdomain (or easier yet a folder) off one of your domains that *does* work on the server. You can then symbolically link that folder to the /web folder of the domain you just set up.

Because you don't need a cgi directory to run cgi scripts. If it makes you feel better, you can instruct them to create one or you can create one for them, but it isn't needed.

Not that this exactly has to do with the question posted but this is incorrect. You can access a new domain's CP (one that has not propagated and that shares an IP address) by using the URL:

http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:81/.cobalt/siteManage/www.newdomain.com

-where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the server IP (or maybe the IP used when the site was set up).

Gets the clients off your back for a bit, heh. They can play with the pretty colors and set up some pop accounts :D
