Hi,

I am having a problem with xgamer.net. In a nutshell, my server went down Saturday night and would not reboot. Its Thursday morning now and my server is still down, thats 5 days it has been totally down. I have 3 weeks before my next paypal payment will be sent so lets see how long it takes him to get my server back online. You can keep up with this yourself, my IP is 65.221.103.80.

I can't give anymore information because I don't know anything more than the server won't reboot. He actually told me that himself via ICQ Saturday night. He asked if we had modified the Kernal, I told him no, and thats the last I've heard from him. I have placed about 5 phone calls to his voice mail, sent 8 emails, and a few icq messages. He refuses to answer or respond to my inquires, so I have no idea what is going on. All I know is that the server is still down. He may have tried to fix it and failed, or failed to try to fix it. Your guess is as good as mine. Anyway, i'll post here everyday until he gets the box back online or I cancel my server, whichever comes first.

hes a really nice guy, im sure he will fix the problem and get your server up. Everyone makes mistakes, he will compensate you for your lost time.

Best of luck, and keep us posted!

sampson you sound like an ex boyfriend of his. Rule of thumb is to get apc reboot abilities on one man operation hosts.

lol TheVoice...

He is a good guy, this is quite unusual... hopefully he picks everything back up and takes care of your issue quick.

One man op's are tough.. but still unexcusable for that long of downtime

m00d, sounds like u were hosting something critical on that box... pretty stupid thing to host something critical in a company that doesn't have atleast a dozen tech support dudes...

as far as being a one-man show... not true... hes got his girlfriend with him... n she appears competent in technical matters...

u think ur situation is bad... my servers been down since january something... i ain't bitchin'... i give the occassional call here and there... but not repeated or freak out... ... ... cuz i know hes doin' his best... n he wouldn't leave a server down intentionally unless it did something wrong...

so... calm urself down... n write him an email at admin@xgamer.net ... and just be patient and polite...

me? i use verio... like verio directly... i don't bother with 3rd party companies... i've been with too many and seen too much bullsh*t to put anything critical on them... had 42 minutes of downtime the month b4 last... and for that, i think the guy that messed up on the router configuration was fired... lol... cuz he took down an entire /19 allocation with affected hundreds if not thousands of verio web hosting clients... heh... aside from that downtime, haven't had a single second... heh... n i setup my monitoring to query servers every 30 seconds... lol

well, i'm hoping to get a credit for this downtime (as in a free month)... since i have been down for like 100% of my month so far i think... heh... but otherwise, i think xgamer is worth it cuz of his business ethics n the fact that hes generally a nice n polite guy... if he weren't those things, i would have raised hell by now... heh...

when did this turn into a flame forum?

if you have a probelm with your service dont pay for it? there are a ton of one man shows in this industry that run a whole hell of allot smoother than huge corporations! one good techy is far more valuable than 12 morons!

am i right.....?

5 days of downtime? If your server has been down that long, it's time to leave. It doesn't take 5 days to restart a server. Even IF something is wrong with it, should only take a half an hour to get the new parts installed.

I think he must have paid his bills, or why would he care? Also, if you take the time to read the post he says he still has 3 weeks left until next billing.

Business ethics? What a joke! Do you actually consider not answering emails or messages for nearly a week good business ethics? A nice dude? He takes someone's money for a service and doesn't even attempt to provide that service? You think that's nice? I call that fraud.

That may apply in many cases, but not this one apparently.

Yeah, he's doing his best at taking your money for nothing. HAHAHA

--Everyone makes mistakes, he will compensate you for your lost time. --

Sampson, do you work for this dude or what? If so , tell him to get Mood and Netdude's servers running ASAP. Also, remind him to answer his customer's emails.

I totally agree. And even if something is wrong he could answer your emails and messages.

Would it make your server come back alive if I added my whole life story to my optional information? Maybe link to a page dedicated to discussing all my thoughts on God. I wonder if I posted a website about my pet, would that make xgamer dude answer his emails?

I don't have an interest in posturing for the benefit of forum posters. Frankly, I've never read a single person's profile on here. I spend my time actually reading the posts and trying to learn something.

Seriously though, I don't have a dog (days) in this fight. I can assure you I am not anyone's competition, but then again I'm a first time poster. You can't believe me. Oh well, maybe I should have engaged in some nonsensical posts. I failed to grasp that you can only be taken seriously if you don't post about serious sh*t.

PS - You might not be so weary if you spent less time on Xgamer's jock. Just a thought.

Maybe the reason is that it's not too sustainable? I mean ... unmetered UUNet at 200.... if each one pushes just more than 2-3mbits on average he got to be in trouble...

Also netdude had mentioned before that he pushed like 20-30mbits consistently. So we do know the real cost of UUNet for that... and it isn't 200.

netdude
02-14-2003, 01:37 PM
sure it is... why can he accept me pushing 20-30Mbps? because: 1) i m gonna b working with him on some other stuff... 2) he has to prepay for bandwidth in 100Mbps blocks, whether he uses it or not he gets billed in 100Mbps increments... and he has a lot of one of these blocks available... :P might as well use it rather than just give uunet the free benefit... heh

zdwebhosting
02-14-2003, 04:40 PM
so when he runs out of that 100mbit block then what though? ;)

How many Mbps are you pushing since your server has been down since January?

Quite... Netdude isn't telling the full story actually... Here's where he confesses proudly to his achievements:

Ah ha! Perhaps Mood was pushing a lot of Mbps..Maybe this is why Xlamer's servers "go down."

netdude
02-15-2003, 05:55 AM
zd, u turd, u've seen my mrtg graphs so u know i ain't bullsh*ting... lol... and that 97Mbps as mentioned, that was during the SQL.Slammer... so it wasn't exactly a steady thing... :P

all in all, xgamer is weeding out those that abuse for purposes like warez pretty darn fast... n as for others, well, probably going to go towards some sort of a capping system... because as was said in other threads many many times... unmetered isn't unlimited... :P

sql.slammer hit xgamer pretty hard as they have hundreds of servers running winblows... although they're mostly game servers, they are servers never-the-less... :P

i totally can NOT say for sure... but i would guess he gets most of his business through gameserver resellers/etc... :)

Hi,

I'm back with a update. My server is STILL down!
Its Saturday morning, the server went down last
Saturday night. This is insane. I've had ONE communication
from xgamer since my first post saying he can't get it to
boot without getting a Kernel error. I am sick about this.
I've lost a lot of work and a fair amount of money.

Still no server...

I'll let yall know if and when he gets it back online...

Thanks

You were informed that the server was down and the account cancelled because the FBI and Interpol confiscated the hard drive for illegal pornographic content.

I normally wouldn't have posted that, but the reason was made clear to him as to why the server wasn't up anymore.
That, and I don't like my hardware being taken from me.
You think the FBI left a check for the cost of the drive?
FAT CHANCE!

XGamer

I would like to first start off with an explanation of why things got so bad so fast.

I have done gameserver hosting for 3 years now, and was quite proficient at it.
One day, I had the bright idea that I would get into doing dedicated and colocation services as well.
What I didn't count on, was the overwhelming response that I got for orders. I didn't have enough capital set back to finance the level of growth that came my way.
Nor did I have a proper support system in place to handle it.
To put it in short, I completely allowed myself to get overwhelmed rather than put a stop to it.
This is my fault, and for all those who received crappy service from us, or never got your server, I am truly sorry.

I am currently having the backend on the site completed so that we will have a trouble ticket system, linked directly to on-site support that will be available 24/7.
We are also setting up a chat room that will offer voice and text chat where you can actually talk to the support guys.
I am also no longer a one man operation.

The move to HE.net was done so that I could have a greater bandwidth capacity at a lower cost.
The move to the Equinix (Ashburn) datacenter was so I could have a variety of carriers to choose from.
Bandwidth going unmetered is something that will be reserved for gameservers only, since I know what gameservers use, and can effectively manage that.
I will continue to have my office in my home because quite simply put, I like being here. I will however be installing a second line for business, and I WILL start answering it.
Over the next 3 weeks, I will be getting all of these things set up and running.

Now, most importantly, for all of those who I owe refunds to, or have hardware from that needs to be sent somewhere, please email me at admin@xgamer.net and I will start getting this sorted out.
What you need to include is:
name
payment method
amount
phone number
what was ordered
If I have hardware that belongs to you, please include the shipping address that its to be sent to.

I will contact you back immediately to arrange restitution.

Netdude, if you are out there still, get in touch with me.

If that's true then why is he still on here to post about it? If that was true, the FBI would have arrested him by now. Or, if they haven't, then you've just commited a felony by giving that information out.

I should clarify this on behalf of M00d.

The content didnt belong to M00d, it belonged to one of the customers on his machine that he was hosting.

The customer was based out of Russia, which is why Interpol was involved.

M00d was quite angry about in fact.
