Hi,

I am interested in setting up a new web site very soon.

Does anybody have any experiences with Halfpricehosting.com?
Burlee.com?

I am looking for knowledgable customer service and fast/ reliable site access.

Thanks for your help!

HPH are good if you need cheap hosting, but they can be right pain in the arse at times.

For example, they change what's in each plan on a regular basis, which is hard to keep up with. Adding things is not a problem, its when they just take it away that causes me grief.

They are supposedly moving to a new datacentre, not sure when that will be. Speed is fine though, for personal/lite stuff.

I don't have any personal experience with either, so I won't comment that way. I will mention, however, that you can search this and other forums for their names and see past posts about them. I'm pretty sure there have been some posts at least about HPH.

Good luck.

p.s. You didn't mention what your requirements are, so it would also be hard to recommend a host to you.

For what it's worth:
I have been using VeoWeb.net for a couple months now and am very happy.
I've also heard good things about Annette's Hosting Matters ( http://www.hostmatters.com ). I have a lot of respect for CanHost ( http://can-host.com ) as well because they really listened to input given on this forum and made quite a few changes to their plans/descriptions based on it.
I know there are a few other GOOD hosting companies that I can't remember at the moment, and my apologies to them for not mentioning their services.

Before signing on with anyone, be sure to do your research thoroughly. Don't be quick to jump in and sign up --or you'll most likely be sorry. :)

I think Digit(?) had some good things to say about Burlee once upon a time, but I can't seem to track down that reference. HPH has received good marks for features, but decidedly poor marks for support.

Oh, nearly forgot. As of July 1st, HPH are changing their plans. The URL is http://www.halfpricehosting.com/Host/newplans.asp.

You might want to check that as part of your decision. Basically, there is not point hosting with them below Silver on the new structure, as the main benefit of NT hosting (i.e. ASP and COM objects) has been removed.

The choice, as they say, is yours!

Burlee is just a no. THe support people can get very rude at times.

Beware of lifetime (or similar) hosting offers.

It's been shown in these forums that there is no way a hosting company can survive with one time only hosting plans --especially at cut rate prices. Bandwidth, servers, disk space, etc. all cost money. Having customers that don't provide ongoing income, doesn't provide for this. Especially when a lifetime plan is all a hosting company has to offer.

I got burned by HostingPlans.com's lifetime plan. These types of plans are usually a joke.

Buyer beware.
