View Full Version : earning revenue on the internet
joesmoh 05-21-2001, 08:36 PM Hi,
I was searching the internet for ad money websites and I came across one called fastclick.net. Has anyone dealed with this website and how much do they pay per click?
Any comments would be appreciated!
Thanks
GeorgeC 05-21-2001, 09:11 PM From what I hear, they are quite strict about the sites they accept, and certainly has not been immune to the current poor advertising market. Here is an relevant thread on GeekVilliage: http://geekvillage.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/004604.html

Forget pay per click program.
Generally, they will give you nothing.
Try to apply a CPM basis ad network such as flycast, burst!net.
If there's no CPM ad network accept your site, try to run pay per lead program such as clicktrade etc.
You would be better off running a CPC program (non branding ads) or a CPA program than a CPM program given the current status of the ad market. You would be lucky to get $.25 CPM with 468x60 banners.
SI-Chris 05-22-2001, 03:57 PM I have had good luck with Comission Junction (http://www.cj.com). I almost always use text links though, not banner ads. The things I like about CJ are the fact that you can choose exactly who your advertisers will be, and each advertiser has a variety of banner sizes along with text links. They've got %-of-sale, pay-per-lead, and pay-per-click commissions, although most of the merchants want to approve your site before they'll accept you into the program and the the pay-per-click merchants with a decent rate are hard to get in to. I have a site with about 1000 page views per day, and I make between $100 and $200 a month on it. Obviously I'm not going to get rich on it, but the extra money is not bad.
jnestor 05-22-2001, 04:04 PM About the only thing that pays at fast click lately are the pop-behinds. The banners are all low rate and there aren't many of them to be had. On the upside they pay on time (faster than most other networks) and have one of the nicest sites as far as picking which banners run and setting up defaults.
I don't think anyone can get into Engage (formerly Flycast) or Burst right now. They have way to much inventory as it is. Your only hope would be if you happen to hit a hot niche (though I don't even know what's hot right now).
For affiliate programs I'd recommend using CJ and avoiding LinkShare and BeFree. Both of the latter are experiencing a lot of problems and complaints. Also CJ will roll up the payments from multiple programs so you can make $5 from 10 different programs to make the $50 minimum. Of course CJ is currenly late with their most recent payment to me (and others).
Pretty much the ad market just sucks right now.
SI-Chris 05-22-2001, 04:26 PM I haven't had any late payment problems with Commission Junction. The problem I have had is that apparently a couple of months ago they changed their policies for merchants, and some of my best merchants (which were small software vendors or other types of technology service providers) dropped out. Another problem is that a new merchant will come in with a good click-through/lead rate, then drop it down a month later. I've written to a few asking them about it, and they say that many of the clicks/leads they are getting are fraudulent.
One thing that might be worth looking into to supplement your other affiliate income is the Amazon.com affiliate program. I've only averaged about $30 a month with them, although I know of a couple of other sites that have good content and really target their visitors with the items they list, and make quite a bit more.
I think if you're going to make any money with affiliate marketing, you have to do everything "right"; have a site with worthwhile, targeted content that's updated frequently, promote your site, and use text-link ads instead of banners. A good listing on Yahoo! can help tremendously.
Yes Chris you've got the point exactly. Most affiliates
just add a few loosly targeted banners to their site and
basically hope for a few wonder sales. It doesn't work.
We run an affiliate program, and the affiliates that make
money with it do everything "right", just as you said.
The reason behind that is easy to understand: There are a few instant buy decisions happening at times, most the time however people know what they are looking for, and they seek you out, they don't buy accidentially. So targeting and promoting is everything. Successful affilates create mini sites for every product or vendor they sell.
cheers

skysenshi 05-23-2001, 09:55 AM My friend who owns http://www.animetric.com gets thousands of dollars from affiliate sales (about $1000+ per month and growing).
Her main affiliate store is Amazon.com. Of course, it entails a lot of hardwork.
