View Full Version : VDI pro and cons...
pink64 05-21-2001, 09:10 AM to public comments,
why some providers escape from VDI?
isolate or due to real problems?
thanks,
(my personal opinion, from Italy remains the fastest NOC, tried NAC, VERIO, ALABANZA etc.)
Kaith Sutai-Rustaz 05-21-2001, 09:27 AM You can do a search here on VDI that will bring up several threads that address this question. You can also go to VDI's forums to see what they've been doing lately. vdi.net/forums I think.
Short summary : Until recently they were 1 of the better small NOCs. They recently had some hiccups, and are now regrouping due to that. Several hosts left during this time. They have since inproved their connection and are continuing to improve it, though depending on where you are, it may not be as great as hoped. If they continue in the direction they appear to be going, they may regain the #1 position in the smaller NOC catagory (Keep in mind, when I say small, I'm typing in comparison to NOCS like Exodus. VDI is bigger than my local NOCs by a long shot) :)
In a growing industry, these speedbumps do occur, and the fact that they have spent the $$ to fix the issues to me shows a commitment to improve. One of the users here "William" is from VDI, and alot of us have either sites or equipment in their NOC.
Wazeh 05-21-2001, 09:57 AM They offer a very good service. They did have some connection problems and outages for several weeks, and the upgrade was delayed many times. Some people think that the management should have done a better job in planning the upgrades. Some hosts moved out...
I am not sure if they moved so quickly to please complaining customers or due to fundamental conviction in the need to move, but they did.
We decided to stay with VDI, and now everything is back to normal again.
For the record, Alabanza was the favorite of hosts frequenting this board until it fell from grace for VDI.
All NOCs have those bad days.
pink64 05-21-2001, 03:23 PM thanks for your courtesy, I hope to read other opinions,
bye
:)
Things were pure hell with vdi for a few weeks. But now that the upgrade has gone through, everything seems just fine. Getting good speed on my site now and it's much more reliable. I guess the upgrade they put in *oc-3* was substancial enough that they shouldn't have these kind of problems any time in the near future...
fruitsalad 05-21-2001, 06:03 PM VDI connection has been terrible the past 24hours
i get 100% packet loss on pings and ftp really sux bad.
my server is regularly Missing in action. I'm glad I'm moving off there very soon... not good for business at all... enough is enough.
peace out.
acetate 05-21-2001, 06:36 PM Yeah same here.. Been having problems with my server.. Ping times are terrible... I heard they're adding in another OC-3 today.. Maybe that's why I'm having a problems today and yesterday..
William 05-21-2001, 09:23 PM as of today all upgrades are completed, you should not have any issues. if you are please just let us know, it may just be a routing issue.
The 2nd additional Oc3 is in place, there is addtional 300 MBPS that is available at VDI with both Oc3 Cuircuts.
I would like to invite some of the larger hosting companies to give me a chance to proove ourselves again, we have spent the money and time.
fruitsalad and Acetate who are your upstreams for hosting, if you are getting loss is the server down ??
let me know, as I will looking into it asap.
