View Full Version : RackShack Stupidity...

Ok, this is making me mad. I have ************** (http://**************.com) and their servers are co-located at RackShack. I come online this afternoon only to find THIS MESSAGE (http://sfne.com). So I get a hold of my host and they say that RackShack suspended my account because my forums were CGI-based. Since when are Invision Boards CGI-based? I'm pretty sure its PHP. So I've got a day of downtime because of their mistake. I think I need to get a month free or something...what do you guys think?

To my knowledge RackShack does not log into their customers servers. If a server is causing a problem bandwidth wise they will simply pull the plug on that server. The only time, that I know of, in which RackShack will mess with your site is if you are on one of RackShack's servers which would mean that you host does not have a dedicated server with rackshack but is rather reselling their webspace on their servers.

Ok, supposedly this is not RackShack's fault. It is the reseller which has servers on RackShack: http://web-xperts.com. Argh...still down. I just keep getting more mad.

SFNE Freak: First off, Rackshack DOESN'T provide colocation, only dedicated servers. Sounds like you've got some communcation issues to work out with your host. Those are not fun especially when your site is down... best of luck!

P.S. When visiting web-xperts.com it took so long to load I gave up.

And why is this in the programming discussion? :D

Because it has to do with forums.

Should probabally go under Webhosting since RS was not the one to suspend your site, your host was.

You cannot hold RackShack responcible for this. RackShack could care less what you put on their dedicated servers, as long as it is legal...

I've read a lot of strong stories but this beats all. That message is the standard cpanel messages that comes up when a site is suspended in cpanel.

There is only one party here who suspended your site and it is your host.

And not for exceeding bandwidth. This suspension was done manually and on purpose. Not automatically like when you go over your bandwidth.

All they have to do to rectify the situation is click one button.

But I doubt they're going to do that. Since they mentioned your forum it is very likely that you were either using more bandwidth then they bargained for or more system resources then they counted on and now they want to get rid of you.

Server Location:

All servers are located in the United States in Norfolk, Va  Rackshack??

Sorry guys, a site suspended for running php/cgi - what the hell is that?

CHANGE HOSTS - no ifs, ands, or buts.

When we have a reseller putting adult content on their server, we dont disable their account, we sell them an adult server.

Rackshack will only terminate a site for illegal content, spam or other TOS infringements. CGI/PHP - no way.

I've seen many hosts that put in their terms or service the rights to terminate if a CGI runs a heavy load on a server.

Heh.. rackshack wouldnt cancel your account for using CGI.

This is the person you bought the hosting from being an arse.

Absolutely, almost all hosts would have such a clause in their TOS, however, there are ways of doing things like email/communication rather than denial of service.

In the past, I too have shutdown clients that have caused too much load without contacting the customer first. But in the last 7 years of hosting, Ive done this only two times. Both times I had no option because the server kept crashing with the loads. And then I try my best to email/phone/fax the client - get them onto a dedicated to meet their needs.

Simply blocking them off is just plain rude, and they could even face a legal battle, regardless of their TOS.

Sure I'm not saying that there shouldn't have been communication but just that it's possible that a cgi could kill resources on a server, especially a busy forum.

I once saw someone get a perl script generating a 4Gb file full of junk!

Here's the updated story:

My host, CEO Webhosting is on a reseller plan from Web-Xperts. Web-Xperts *supposedly* has their servers at RackShack (it says ensim.rackshack.net in my cPanel). The excuse of the day was that I have "Shareware/Freeware" on my site. I most definitely don't unless they consider AIM Expressions (skin files) on my site shareware. If my site is down tomorrow morning when I wake up the DNS is getting switched back to ULTRAsurge.

"The excuse of the day was that I have "Shareware/Freeware" on my site.."

OK, I gues I am stupid, but WTF does THAT have to do with anything?

I bet that most of the CGI, sql and stats programs they have installed are shareware/freeware....

Yea, its crap. As soon as I get my mySQL backup I'm switching my DNS back.

"CEO webhosting"?
What's their URL?

Hmmmm that is bad what the host did to you.

i know im going slightly off topic here, but it would be nice of you to change the topic name now that you have discovered it isn't rackshack to blame :)

just so that they dont look bad.....

i would change it to your hosts name

and i would deffinently change host if they did that to me with no warning

In regards to changing the topic title..: I actually did try to change it. It looked like it went through but when I went to topic view it didn't change.

Their URL is banned from here for one reason or the other just insert a - between the ceo and webhosting and stick a .com at the end. Its not their fault, its their stupid reseller person, Web Xperts.

If I don't get a mySQL back-up I am gonna be so pissed. I have had like 100 posts and 3 members (those are a lot on my forums) since I backed up 6 days before. Argh...

Isn't "Web Xperts" that "host" that makes ridiculous offers on eBay?

Why yes, it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=194&item=2304931456

If your host is a reseller for Web Xperts, then they're not very smart. Find a better host.

Hello:

I'm not too proud of Rackshack. I used to have Everyone's Intenet, who is the parent company of Rackshack and they got to big so the service went to crap. I don't think to highly of support either for them. They let you do what you want unless you go excessive with the bandwith or they get a complaint
