Hey,
How many hosting companies use PayPal to process CC orders instead of paysystems, auth.net, etc.? Is it a good idea to use them? Their rates seem considerably lower, and there's no setup fee. On top of that, they offer a debit card.

Good question, I offer it as a backup feature and use Paysystems as my main form of payment.

I'd like to know more abou Paypal as well and what other hosts think of them. I've heard they can just freeze your account and you don't have access to funds and the support is terrible.. not sure whether it's true or not.

Feedback?

I was just considering using it at first, and eventually moving to PaySystems.

Paypal is ok .. their IPN systems is really flakey. At times the result from their IPN were delay from 30 minutes to an hour. We haven't try paypal's IPN using modernbill .. but it was a huge problem with our domain registration site since it needs a real time result.

So I guess if you don't use IPN .. it should be ok. Just stay away from their IPN if you can .. :)

From what I hear about 2Checkout delaying pay, I don't know If im going to go with them. A delay in pay could hurt in some cases.

I was thinking about PayPal, im still trying to find out a little more though.

We have been using PayPal for since 2001 and have had no problems. We know people who have been using them for longer and they have had no problems.

A lot of people think the account closing is when a kid opens an account with them and breaks their TOS & AUP - the kid can't handle it and start bashing and making things up about PayPal.
I agree with that and would not be surprised if the kid paid others to make false claims about PayPal.

We have never used Paypal for hosting accounts, as we are just getting started in that arena... but have used them for a couple of years to accept money for other products and they have been GREAT! I have heard about the freezing of accounts as well, but have never experienced anything like that ourselves.

We plan to use them as an optional payment method when we get our site up. I have already configured and tested it with ModernBill and it seems to work great... but we will have to wait and see when it goes live :)

One suggestion... I would definitely offer more than just Paypal as a form of payment.... as there are people that do not like them and some people just don't want to sign-up for a Paypal account first... before they send their money.

Hope this helps...

Doug

Use PayPal as a permanent option with something else.
We've been talking with PaySystems recently and have decided to choose them for some various reasons - but none the less, they helped us and replied very fast to our emails.
Very nice indeed :)

Signing up with paysystems or someone similiar is so fast and inexpensive that I can't understand why you wouldn't want to use them as your primary and paypal as a back up for those few that do use it.

I've used PayPal for at least 2 years without one single problem ever. They get very high marks from me. Probably no more than 20% of my business goes through them though - most of my clients use their own credit cards.

As for credit card processors, take the plunge and get your own merchant acct with authorize.net. Well worth it - especially if you get the free setup deal along with ModernBill. There is no comparison with regards to rates and support to 2checkout in my experience. I was with 2C for maybe a year or more, and finally got... well I switched, and my blood pressure dropped 20 points! :D

Use both PaySystems & PayPal as a permanent option.
Some companies find that 50% or more of their clients use PayPal for various reasons. Why not go with both, you'll then get both good sides of the table and not only one!

Just ensure all clients paying you are verified and you'll be ok.
