View Full Version : colocation providers
Me and a buddy are looking to start a webhosting business from the ground up. We've decided to first signup with a colocation company, and then moving up and eventually starting our own datacenter.
Does anybody know of any good colocation companies that offer good prices? Probably the most we could spend right now is $125/month we have looked into rackshack.net and they seem like the best option, we're just looking for a better deal right now.
Thanks.
JWise 02-09-2003, 01:55 AM Rackshack offers colocation??? I had no idea
FHDave 02-09-2003, 01:55 AM rackshack offers colo?
errr... whatever, we want a dedicated server provider basically.
Sorry, I'm an idiot.
JWise 02-09-2003, 01:59 AM Managed or Un-Managed
Managed, we would like to have freebsd installed on it though.
Linux would be fine though.
JWise 02-09-2003, 02:07 AM Well, I only have 2 people in mind.
http://www.DedicatedNOW.com or http://www.beachcomber-creations.com
Im still deciding who I want to go with. I have to chose quickly though. Thats the bad thing about it..
looks like we're going to go with rackshack...
RossMAN 02-09-2003, 03:03 AM I'm new to webhosting and especially new to managed dedicated servers but from what I have read I'd go with Nocster (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=111562) which currently has a sale going on, $0 setup and for $107/mo including WHM & CP you get:
AMD Athlon™ XP 1800 1.53Ghz
512MB SDRAM
60GB IDE Hard Drive
300GB Bandwidth
5 IP Addresses
Red Hat™ Linux 7.3
(Three month prepayment required)
dude, yeah, we'd totally be interested in that. I'll talk to my partner tommorrow when he's back online.

Thats a good deal... downside ->>. some people might not be able to start it off with $300.. other than that, its a good deal
innova 02-09-2003, 12:22 PM Do you know the difference between managed and unmanaged?
If not, learn it. There is a huge difference :)
Rackshack servers are by no means managed. One of the reasons for the attractive pricing :)

The main reason im not going with Rackshack
No, not really, heh.
I feel like such an idiot.
JWise 02-09-2003, 12:31 PM Its alright. WHT is the place for learning Mike :D
neorder 02-09-2003, 03:31 PM so, wat is the difference? an unmanaged colo, i'd say you just have to install all the softwares before you send your server to datacenter, right?
and ub3r, i would like to know your plan...
how are you going to start your own datacentre from colo?
where do you put your servers? as long as your servers are colo with other ISP, you are not datacenter, right?
have you earned enough from reselling?
JWise 02-09-2003, 03:36 PM neorder,
He switched from the idea of co-locating to Dedicated Servers. It was a mistake.
Its part of the long-term business plan and dream to have your own datacenter. Nothings wrong with that.
SrvOutsource 02-10-2003, 08:47 PM Mike,
We offer agressive pricing on dedicated servers, and colocation.
ANd have 2 locations - Miami, FL and Dallas, TX
From your post I am not sure which you ar exactly looking for.
