View Full Version : how to offer automatic signups?

To make a long story short:

made the mistake several months ago and got a dedicated server from ***** (no need for the warnings.. i know all about them now). but for the sake of argument, I now know more about the custom RH 5.2 systems they are using than even their own techs know :) or else it seems. I can now fix all my problems except for downtime which actually hasn't been bad the past few months. One thing I have found.. the biggest problems TO ME with ***** has been their DNS. I started using mydomain.com and pointing the domains to the IP's on my machine and life is MUCH easier now :)

Anyway, I have recently put in an order for a server from burst.net with cpanel and whm.

Ok.. question is, are there any stand-alone scripts that I can setup by themselves or integrate with the above mentioned server to offer automatic signups of hosting accounts? It wouldn't even have to offer live credit card billing as I and my partners are able to monitor the system 20 hours a day and when an order comes in if the card is declined we can turn off the account within 4 hours of it being created, but instant payment would be welcome too.

And of course like most things, the cheapest or free is best. I know that gets you into trouble sometimes like *****, but i still have less than 50 domains so I still don't have a lot to spend right now.

Thanks.
Robin

You may try to contact Ventures Online, all their hosting accounts are setup within 15 minutes using their in house automated signuo scripts integrated with WHM. I am not sure they will distributing this scripts or not.

To venturesonline!

Are you willing to share or sell us your automated WHM signup script?

Are there any other scripts that do this?

Thank you,
Domenico

Oh, the free one?

I thought it didn't work but does it really work then?

Actually It Does Work & Is One Of The Best Scripts.
You can Download the Script ate http://www.nixt.org that is the website of the maker of the script.

Telling You The Truth.
The Script Does Not Work, It Rocks !:D :D :D :D

Yes.. I downloaded it yesterday and it does indeed work.

But it's not automatic.. or least I don't see how to make it automatic. Does anyone know what to customize on it so that the accounts are created instantly? I'm not worried about payment immediately... if someone's card is declined I'll know it within 8-12 hours and I'll cut the account back off. But having it immediately activate the account would be great.

Also, the script asks for a password but when the welcome email is sent it says the password was autogenerated. A bug?

Hmmm, so it cues everything? Can you review the cue and it's wannabe accounts first or does it make them instantly?

How can you tell the new ones from the ones that allready exist?

The script cues the account, so you can go in and look at and either create it with on button click or delete the request.

It doesn't seem like there is a way to check for existing user names because the script doesn't connect to WHM until you approve the account and click on create.

Well, that would be enough for now I guess.

I wish cpanel 4 came out with automatic signup and billing as a standard...

So you could force the new client to choose his domainname as username so no problem will occur then.

BillAdmin 2.0 will support "instant" account setups, however it is not advised that you use this feature. I know that at Site5 we actually end up screening out nearly one in every 4 or 5 orders we receive because they are invalid or fake. If you were using an instant account setup system, you could have a few false/fake accounts setup on your servers every day!

Just imagine if a cracker were to signup with false information and get access to your system (even if it was for an hour or so). The outcome could be potentially disastrous. This is why we designed the system to queue new accounts until an authorized technician reviews the provided information and can verify the validity of the order before activating a new account.

Don't forget... often times someone may use a valid credit card even though it may be a fake order. You can't rely on ANY program to tell you whether or not an order seems "fishy"... that's something that only a human being (with a bit of experience) can do.

It is advisable to review ALL orders before setting them up. Just my $0.02

I never thought about automatic signup from that route. You have definately changed my thinking... But lets say the users is a reseller, would it be advisable to deny resellers automatic signup as well, or maybe users who are already verified by you with another account?:)

But Dont you think that a system that allows only approved clients & resellers to have automatic signups but not to others will cost much , much , much , much , much , much , much , much & much more that FREE ???

If your talking from a programming aspect no...

Just make it so approved users, resellers have to go through as password protected area, or setup a mysql database to verify that they are already users...

If your talking about something else... please explain...

Yes, automatic signups for authorized users is a separate issue. For example, we currently offer instant signups to our resellers.

Eventually, I'm hoping to develop an API for BillAdmin which allows you to setup new accounts remotely (and securely)... however this is a while off yet.

The randomly generated thing happened because I changed it from random to by request without fixing the template files. It is by request and not random at the moment.

I will most likely add a choice in the next version.

Just Another Suggestion :-

Make Compatible with Virtyal Terminals like CyberCash & Authorize.Net
