View Full Version : Yearly Payments...
LCHwebHost 02-07-2003, 03:51 PM When I have a client signup and say they sign up using paypal and it is a 1 year subscription and they register a domain.... how do you guys handle the domain renewal? As I have to manually renew it them. So from the time they submit there payment to renew (for the next year) there is a 24 hours period that i can renew the domain before it expires... which is cutting it kind of close and I'm afraid I might lose someones domain.. How do you guys handle this so you don't lose anyones domain?
TheGAME1264 02-07-2003, 04:31 PM I'm not a host myself but here's how I'd handle it if I were.
I'd send out an automated email 30 days before the due date indicating that their account is coming up for renewal and in order to ensure their domain name doesn't expire, they should renew by 5 days before the due date. The reason I say 5 days is because I've seen propagation take that long and because there are people out there who will do it 2-3 days after (which still leaves 2-3 days lead time.)
Just my two cents.
WPT Kyle 02-07-2003, 04:32 PM Should have put this in Running a hosting biz forum
Martie 02-07-2003, 04:38 PM I send out a reminder (30days previous) if they registered the domain through us.
RackNine 02-07-2003, 05:01 PM 30 days? You're nice. GoDaddy used to use every opportunity to remind me they had my domains by the balls :). 90 days, 60 days, 30 days... by the way did you know Godaddy also offers web hosting, 15 days - hey why don't you get private registration, 5 days - buy or popup killer, 1 day - uh-oh!

okihost 02-07-2003, 05:24 PM Yeah Godaddy sucks you dont know how many times I have ordered a domain and by the time I get to checkout I forgot to uncheck the box for private registration or home owners insurance or whatever they sell and have to do back and redo it..
and the expire emails are starting to get me.. one at 90 days, 60 days, 30 day, 15 days, 7 days, 3 days, 48 hours, 24 hours, 16 hours, 8 hours, 4 hours, 2 hours, 1 hour, 30 minutes, 15 minutes 5 minutes, 30minutes after experation, 1 day after expriation etc.. gets kind of old thats why as they expire I am just moving them over to enom.
LCHwebHost 02-07-2003, 05:55 PM Hi,
What I mean is if they have a subsription via PayPal (so I don't need to email them, it automaticly bills them one year from the date they sign up). So I only have a few hour window after I get there payment to renew their domain name (unless i'm missing someting..)
Caffling 02-07-2003, 06:51 PM If the automatic billing is really what you want to do, a fix would be to bill them a few days before you register it the first time, that way when it renews, they are billed a few days before it expires.
ddent 02-17-2003, 06:04 AM Or, you could setup a subscription where the initial payment occurs right away and the next one occurs after 350 days, then yearly from then on. That way you will be getting the money before the expiration date each year.
UH-Matt 02-17-2003, 06:13 AM We renew the domain anyway, its so cheap to do that its better to renew than go and lose a customers domain :)
sHosts 02-17-2003, 07:29 AM Ask them for the payment in advance for the domain renewal. If they don't want to continue, don't renew the domain.
Keevo 02-17-2003, 11:09 AM hit them in the head with a tack hammer and tell them they ae gonna lose their website to some porn guy
RealityHost 02-17-2003, 11:32 AM Your posts are so childish Keevo yay you actully found out post counts work in this forum
addvalue 02-17-2003, 11:47 AM I am not sure about using godaddy as we are using enom.
We do provide domain registration but I believe that the client will need to renew themselves since it is using their CC. But as a host, we will also keep them inform about this matter.
Most of all, do some work and check frequently or set an alarm in your MS outlook to remind you.
ddent 02-17-2003, 12:25 PM You can also have eNom automagically send them a renewal notice with a URL where they can renew at your default price with thier CC
addvalue 02-17-2003, 12:29 PM Really? That will be nice. Will look into how it works.
Need to explore Enom website a little more then.
