Can someone please explain in details what is DOMAIN POITING?

Pointing generally refers to the process whereby one domain will point to a subfolder of another domain's account, but act as its own site. So if you have domainb.com pointed to domaina.com/somefolder, visitors will see domainb.com in the address bar of their browser. There are various levels of functionality with pointed domains - you can have mixed logs with the main site, separate logs, use the master domain's cgi-bin or have the pointed domain use its own, and so on.

I'll only add that I wouldn't automatically assume that this is the exact definition that *the host* uses. If I was to think of one other thing it *could* mean, it would be that they will point another domain to your existing domain (so that typing in either domain gets you to the same place).

If it isn't explained on the site, I'd fire off an email and ask, just to be sure.

Chicken's advice is good. People use terms in different ways all the time.

Another meaning of domain pointing is similar to Annette's only different doimains pointing to the same folder, such as when a .net and .org domain point to the same location as the .com

Thanks for all your reply. I know the benifit of poiting now, but is there any disadvantage having many sites hosted with one account by pointing?

Not at all. In most cases it saves you money.

some companies only give email accounts under the "main" domain, not the pointed ones.

Some will only give you POP accounts on the main domain but would redirect all mail from the other domains to one of those addresses.

Different hosting companies have different will do's and will not do's.. always worth asking!

Absolutely. I tend to assume that people *will* email a host before they select one, and this is certainly one of those things you should verify before jumping in, if it's important to you. Ask them what their policy is on pointing domains and parking domains, and you should get a clear idea of where they stand.
