Chicken 06-15-2000, 09:42 PM I have used them, and aside from some shortcomings on the system they use and that they aren't all that flexible, they were good. They had some problems a few months ago, but I think they've been solved. When I said not that flexible, I meant that I had emailed them some requests, and they pretty much said, yeah, it doesn't do that. For web hosting (for example), you couldn't have a one time set up fee with a monthly reoccuring fee. Instabill allows that, but I have yet to fully use them. Someone on another board said they were slow getting out checks :( AIS 06-16-2000, 03:24 AM I used ccslide.com for about a month in December. I too found that they were not flexible and also moved on to use instabill.com I'm still using instabill.com, I think they are the best third party processor out there today that doesn't charge extra fees, are secure and are flexible(to a point). They would be the best for a company that is just starting out, I wouldn't recommend them to larger organizations though. Good points: * It is extremely easy to setup new products or services. Linking to the order form is a piece of cake too! :p * Sale notifications are always sent out immediately, and are displayed in your Control Center on entrance to get to easily. * They have several settings and options (shopping cart, catalog, etc.) that makes using their system very flexible. * It is very easy to refund a purchase, though it will also refund any setup fees included with the sale. * There are a bunch of other good points that I'm probably forgetting. Just test it out yourself... setting up an account is free. Some bad points I've encountered with them are: * Checks are very slow to get out! Expect to wait at least 13 days from the date they are supposed to be sent out. The checks are sent out from Canada, which could explain the delay to getting to the states? * Their 'statistics&reporting' database isn't accurate. Sometimes I will find orders listed as 'settled' that never occured or that were declined. It makes it look like you've earned more than you actually did, but is only a problem if you rely on their record keeping and not your own. * Declined orders sometimes appear, other times they don't. This is bad because I have no clue if a client of mine was able to make payment (or at least tried) or is having a hard time getting the order through. I'll usually find out when the client has to email me to let me know there are problems, which can be embarassing (for me at least). * Reoccuring billing does not work. A client of mine got away with three months of free hosting because I thought he was being billed automatically. When I finally realized I had never seen the money I contacted instabill. They told me 'there must have been problems with their bank'. Why I wasn't notified of the problems? I never got an answer to that question :( In a month or so I am getting my own merchant account, my business has grown to the point that being in control will be the best and most professional way to go. If you think your business will grow at a reasonably fast rate, just cut thru all the third party stuff and get yourself a merchant account... it will save you money and a headache or two. More info than needed? Sorry, I got a little carried away. This sure was way off topic :D Chicken 06-16-2000, 06:33 PM Basically, the "get your own merch. account" is about the only way to go. These services are quick and easy but sometims getting your payments isn't quick, and setting things up just how you want them, isn't always easy. Kinda quick and kinda easy. it really depends on what you are selling. |
