View Full Version : Transfers to Namecheap
verix 02-06-2003, 05:00 PM Greetings,
I'm trying to transfer a .com from Tucows to Namecheap. It seems to be taking a really long time. I ordered the transfer two days ago and I still haven't received a confirmation e-mail from Namecheap. I e-mailed support@namecheap.com last night and there hasn't been a response from them yet.
I've done a transfer to Namecheap in the past and it never took this long. Is Namecheap going down the hill? How long did it take for your transfers to complete? Appreciate any input, thanks.
SoftHAUS 02-06-2003, 05:15 PM In the past usually fairly quick, the last transfer took three tries to get it right. I ended up going to Registerfly and got it done on the first attempt
Akash 02-06-2003, 07:24 PM Namecheap is an enom reseller and lately my transfers have been taking as long as a week. I'd wait until Monday before worrying too much.
verix 02-06-2003, 07:24 PM Damn, three tries?
Argh, I'll wait another day for a reply. They shouldn't depend on a web helpdesk system for support requests. Creating another account on the web is a real annoyance. E-mail is still the best way.

You can always email us at support@namecheap.com or you can reach me direct at rick@namecheap.com . As far as length of transfers goes, we submit your request just like any other registrar does. It is then ENTIRELY up to the losing registrar to release the domains to us. We are basically on THEIR time and mercy. Registrar transfers do not fail because of us or our system, in many cases the system is made to fail. Many registrars place holds or locks on their customers domains without their knowledge. In other cases losing registrars will send out confusing emails that look like spam(which most people will immediately delete) with a link to approve the transfer on their end. There is also a BIG problem with registrars providing faulty or unreliable whois output that will cause all sorts of problems for email based verification transfers. I don't know if the whois problem is done purposely or not but it is a common source of problems. We did not create the system but we certainly do have to live by it even though it alienates our customers because they do not understand that in MOST cases the failed transfer has to do with the losing registrar. That being said, we will submit and resubmit your transfer request until it goes through. If you need further help, please do not hesitate to contact me direct.

Softhaus,
RegisterFly.com uses the exact same system as us(enom).

b.m.2 02-06-2003, 08:56 PM Great explaination Rick!
huh, I didn't know registerfly used the enom system.
Good to know.;)
verix 02-06-2003, 09:01 PM Rick,
Thanks for the reply. I have completed a transfer with Namecheap before and it went quickly. When I started the transfer, a transfer confirmation was sent from Namecheap asking me to accept or reject the request. This is the e-mail which I have not received yet. Has a new system been put in place to bypass this step? Or is Enom the one who sends that e-mail? After I accept the transfer, only then does a confirmation from the losing registrar get sent to me.
enetwork 02-06-2003, 09:05 PM Windsor,
The system is EXACTLY the same as it's always been with us. You must make sure that your correct email address is listed in the admin section of your domain. The other problem could be the whois output of your current registrar that I mentioned above. Shoot me an email with your details and I will try and get to the bottom of this for you.

Mythril 02-06-2003, 11:10 PM does namecheap have the free risk transfer? So if it does fail they can try again, instead of paying again? I was thinking of moving one my domains there :)

XYPHEN 02-09-2003, 01:44 PM Does namecheap take paypal, or just visa??
greggish 02-09-2003, 03:35 PM NameCheap takes PayPal and CC.
verix 02-10-2003, 09:56 AM After about a week of transfer attempts (four), "lost" messages from Namecheap support and high levels of frustration, I finally got the first friggin transfer confirmation from Enom just now.
So who am I supposed to attach the blame to? Enom, Namecheap or the losing registrar Tucows? If it was going to be this much hassle, I wouldn't have bothered to transfer in the first place. Argh.
enetwork 02-10-2003, 01:39 PM Windsor,
It seems that as soon as you updated your email address(which was not until last night) you did actually recieve the transfer request. We apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced.

verix 02-10-2003, 09:36 PM Richard,
I check my mailbox very carefully and archive all messages, including the spam. I never received anything from Enom until today.
It doesn't matter anyway. The transfer is going through now.
I can't help but think there would have been fewer delays if I could have dealt with Enom directly instead of through a reseller like Namecheap. I believe it may be more advantageous to interact with an actual registrar when complications occur.
Thanks for all your help.
