View Full Version : Rackshack.. again
dorokusai 05-18-2001, 05:49 AM Is anyone else having intermittent problems accessing their RaQ at Rackshack? For the past few days when I've typed in my URL the site hasn't been available for a few minutes at a time. I'm trying it from the UK.
I wonder if this is a sign that all's not right with Rackshack in general? People go on about having their RaQs set up in 5 minutes and having 8 IPs within 24 hours, but Rackshack have been around for a few months now - for those who have been there from the beginning, are you still finding it a top service in terms of speed?
I'm thinking now of switching to a new host. I can't afford this much downtime, the server's already been down once for a couple of days (they didn't have someone at hand with the RaQs. I had to wait while someone went out to take a look, I kept being told it "should be fixed within 24 hours". So much for a quick reboot if you need it).

the_tick 05-18-2001, 06:10 AM Hi
I have noticed this too, but not with my site with theirs. Every now and then i go and look at the support pages and i just cant access their site, I wait about 5 mins and they are back.
dorokusai 05-18-2001, 06:24 AM My RAQ runs superb.
Maybe you've been lucky, maybe mine is an isolated incident. One thing's for sure, I've just received a call from a business contact who says all the emails he sent to me have bounced. Yes, everything has been working fine up until a week or so ago. I've been with Rackshack for a couple of months now.

dorokusai 05-18-2001, 07:13 AM I just tried sending mail to Rackshack's VP of tech support (rnp@rackshack.net) and got my mail bounced back!

wickedmoon.co.uk exists. For the past several years. It's the only other address I have because wickedmoon.com hosted with them doesn't work properly

afriq 05-18-2001, 10:40 AM I've been with them for a week or so now, and did not experience any hassle so far. Their own site can be a bit slow at times (must be the ASP) - I had to try 4 times before the order form went through. And one cannot bookmark sections - maybe somebody should tell them that all of this is causing extra traffic ...
Oh yes, there was some downtime on their site a couple of hours ago (member and ordering sections), but all seems to be well again ...

Chris 05-18-2001, 10:52 AM Rackshack is fine....... there uptime is almost 100%
I have not had my server down for more than hmm 30 minutes in the last 2 months.
I have "heard" people from far east have had some problems accessing the page but thats about it.
The speed is excellenet, and im geussing you probly have things setup wrong if your getting problems.
DNS settings have to be setup properly or else it will cause problems, site will not show etc.....
I would reccommend setting up your own DNS servers instead of using theres, that way your system is not relying on theres to work.
Thanks, Chris
Snowbird122 05-18-2001, 09:26 PM My raq has been working great for about a month. The only problem was at the end of last month when their DNS form went down because of "end of the month billing". It was down for a few days.
dorokusai 05-19-2001, 05:07 AM Don't make the assumption that the service is excellent for everyone, just because it's been alright for you. For me, it took them 2 days to give the server a kick after reporting the error, DNS has been deleted by mistake, emails have bounced and the site has been down intermittently for several minutes at a time.
Like you, my server worked perfectly for a couple of months, but there have now been a few problems. Maybe I've just been unlucky, but I've a feeling there is more to come from Rackshack.

Chris 05-19-2001, 01:10 PM you are aying you have been hosted for a few months now, but wasnt it you who just told us you just got hosting from them?
dorokusai 05-21-2001, 06:53 AM No, you must have misread.
tymonhall 05-21-2001, 09:44 PM I've had no problems but I have heard that if you are using thier dns then you might have problems.
