I am starting up my own hosting company through reselling another. Right now I have everything in place as of what I need to have, but there is one thing I am unsure about. What licenses, legal documents, etc. do I need to get started? I was told once that all I need is a DBA form submitted to the county or state.

But is that all I need? Do I need a business license, or any other type of document?

Also what about taxes? Can anyone provide me with information about taxes that I would require.

Thanks in advance for any responce,

You don't need a DBA. But if you open up a new biz banking account you will probably need one. They are only around 25 dollars anyways.

I personally choose to form a LLC because of the limited personal liability. However many hosts just run under a sole prop.

It's a common misconception.

LLC and Corp may not protect you personally from liability in business, especially hosting. Professional liability is different from business liability.

If you have a store and someone trips on the carpet or gets hurt with a product you sell, that's business liability.

If you're an engineer and make a bad design that's professional liability which usually is only protected by professional liability insurance. Good luck getting it for hosting!
